Senate cannot be intimidated from carrying out its constitutional duties – Saraki

Senate President Bukola Saraki has said that the upper chamber will not bow to any form of intimidation in the discharge of its constitutional duties.

Saraki made this known at plenary on Tuesday, March 28, adding that lawmakers deliberated on issues bordering on the integrity of the National Assembly, Vanguard reports.

Although, Saraki did not give details of the “intimidation” the institution is facing, the Senate president said the upper chamber, after a closed door meeting, resolved to defend its integrity.

“We cannot be intimidated from carrying out our constitutional duties at all times.

“Nothing will stop the National Assembly, especially the Senate, from performing its duties,” he said.

The Senate president also urged committees that were yet to submit reports of budget defense of the various MDAs to do so by Thursday, March 28.

He said at least 20 committees were yet to submit their reports.

He warned that committees that failed to meet the deadline risked not being considered.

“If by Thursday, any committee did not send its report to the Appropriation Committee, we will have no alternative than to make do with what we have on ground.

“This is the last time I am making the announcement,” he said.

Meanwhile, ZENITHBLOG.com has gathered that the Nigerian Senate on Tuesday, March 28, admitted that it had bought a bullet proof Range Rover Sports Utility Vehicle ( SUV ) as reported in the news.

This was disclosed by that Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, the chairman of the Senate committee on media and publicity in an interview with journalists in Abuja.

He revealed that the SUV was bought at a price different from that being reported by the media.

.Senator Abdullahi says the SUV was bought for $298,000 (N49.1 million) and not N298 million as was being reported in the media.
