– Senator Shehu Sani has given his own insight on the rejection of Ibrahim Magu’s nomination by the Senate
– The senator made his stance known on AIT morning show, Kaakaki on Thursday, March 16
– He blamed the presidency for the fate that befell the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)
The senator representing Kaduna central senatorial district, Shehu Sani has blamed the presidency for the rejection of Ibrahim Magu’s nomination by the Senate.
The senator made his stance known on popular AIT breakfast show – Kaakaki on Thursday, March 16.
His words: ”I as a person has no problem with Magu, I admire his zeal in the fight against corruption, but the Senate is composed of 109 members and majority of them felt Magu should not be confirmed based on the report we received from an agency of the presidency.
”There were voices in the Senate for Magu, but the voices against him were more. The presidency did not do her homework properly in the presentation of Magu for confirmation.
”The presidency provided the slab for the Senate to slaughter Magu. The hands of the senators who wanted Magu confirmed was tied by the report the Senate received from the DSS.”

The senator stated that a nominee that comes from the president should enjoy a good report by agencies under the presidency and not otherwise as in the case of Magu.
”It is more convenient to blame the Senate than the presidency for Magu’s non confirmation because we are in an era when people are afraid to speak against the presidency even when it is clear that the presidency is wrong,” he added.
He said Magu is a victim of power play within the presidency, even as he advised the president to stamp his feet and prevail on the respective power blocks within his cabinet to stop undermining him and his government.
”It’s only the president himself that can do this, not the Senate, not myself and not anybody,” Senator Sani concluded.
Meanwhile, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Femi Adesina has said President Buhari would duly respond to Magu’s rejection when the Senate sends him an official letter.
