The Sun reports that the defected members reportedly declared in solidarity with one of the former PDP chieftains and a political heavy weight in Osumenyi, Chief Batholomew Obidike, who said his reason for defecting from the PDP to APGA was to express his satisfaction with the APGA’s government in Anambra under Governor Obiano.

In his declaration speech, Obidike described the PDP as a ‘dead party’ in Anambra State which he said had remained in endless crises that could not allow it to be entrusted with the affairs of the State.

He commended Governor Obiano for what he had done in Anambra in three years he has been the Governor of the state especially his escapades in the security of lives and property of residents in Anambra.

He remembered when people of the state could not dare to attend an event for fear of being kidnapped, “Obiano has chased those kidnappers away. We don’t know the magic he applied, but we are no longer living in fear like before. So, let him continue.”

At the event which attracted members of the APGA Stakeholders Forum from the council area and beyond, Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Rita Maduagwu, congratulated Chief Obidike for his courage, decision and right choice of pulling his supporters wholesale to the APGA, a party she described as a

congregation of people of progressive minds.

The lawmaker said it was quite imperative for every eligible voter from Anambra South Senatorial zone to rally support for Governor Obiano who hails from the Northern part of the State to go for his second tenure so that there would not be any excuse not allow somebody from the South to succeed him in 2021.

She assured Chief Obidike and all his supporters who followed him to the APGA that they would have their rightful positions in the party “because our party believes in internal democracy and we enjoy peace in the party.”

In his brief remark, the APGA chairman in Nnewi South, Sir Fred Odukwe told Obidike that he made the right choice by joining the APGA.

On the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s determination to unseat Obiano at the governorship election, an APGA stakeholder, Chief Titus Anigbogu, said what the APC was saying amounted to a threat to the state.

He queried whether the party wanted to declare war in Anambra as it had vowed to sack the APGA government in the November 18, 2017 election.

Chief Anigbogu argued that the APC as a party had no structure in Anambra State and could not be mentioned freely in the state “because it has failed at the centre and cannot succeed in Anambra state.”

In a similar vein, two chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina and Gombe states, Senator Ibrahim Idah and Alhaji Farouk Bamusa, have moved to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Daily Sun reports that the defection occurred at the weekend.

On his part, Bamusa, who was a founding member of the PDP in Gombe that once contested in the governorship primaries in 2011, announced his defection to the APC in his ward in Kwami town.

Before his cross-carpeting, Idah represented Katsina Central Senatorial District under the PDP and belonged to the Senator Ahmed Markafi’s faction of the PDP.
