– Ojukwu would have fought a second war against Nigeria, for holding Kanu too long in detention, says MASSOB
– MASSOB says the continued detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is an illegal act against a person’s freedom
– The pro-Biafra group has lashed out at some Igbo leaders for not finding time to visit Kanu who is still in custody
– The group has also lauded Governor Ayodele Fayose, stressing that if he was Igbo, visiting Kanu will not be an issue
– MASSOB says that men in Ohaneze do not care about the Igbo people
The continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, has sparked some rage in the hearst of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB).
Punch reports that on Wednesday, March 8, said the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu would have waged another war against the country should he be alive over the continued detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.
MASSOB leader, Uchenna Madu, stated this in a statement made available to newsmen in Awka, Anambra State, on Wednesday.
He faulted the Nnia Nwodo-led Ohanaeze Ndigbo for not finding time to visit Kanu in prison.
Madu wondered what had kept Nwodo and other Igbo leaders from visiting Kanu.
His statement read in part: “If Governor Fayose of Ekiti State were to be Igbo, he would have visited Nnamdi Kanu in prison, if Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu was still alive, he would have fought for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.”
“If truly these men in the Ohaneze Ndigbo leadership love our people and knowing full well that 90 per cent of the Ndigbo prefers Biafra to staying in Nigeria, what has kept Chief Nnia Nwodo, his executive and Ime Obi from visiting or showing solidarity to Nnamdi Kanu, the most loved Igbo man today?”
In a similar vein, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has said that their success towards the restoration of Biafra Republic, is sending panic jitters to the British government.
The IPOB argues that it was for this reason that the former Nigerian colonial master chose to counter the report of the Amnesty International on the killing of many Biafra agitators and the recent ruling of the Federal High Court, Abuja which ruled that IPOB was not an unlawful organization.
Reacting to a statement credited to the Nigerian foreign minister, Mr Geoffrey Onyema in the Premium Times, that the agitation for a sovereign State of Biafra was unacceptable because it was detrimental to the peace, unity, stability and development of the Nigerian state, IPOB spokespersons, Mr Emma Mezu and Dr Clifford Iroanya, claims that the British government was only using the Nigerian foreign affairs ministry as a cover up.
The group insists that the Nigerian foreign minister was speaking for Britain.
