Senator Sani is concerned that the policies of government in Nigeria are growing authoritarian
In a brief statement on his social media accounts late on Friday, March 3, Sani said the banning of processions by Nigerians and other policies of government are a clear indication that the government is slipping towards authoritarianism.

He also noted that the refusal of government to obey court orders and its preventing the gathering of people in an assembly as provided by law are other signs of authoritarianism.
Although Sani did not mention the name of the President Muhammadu Buhari in his statement nor state if he was also referring to state governments who have done some of these things, the present administration has been accused of some of the policies Sani complained about.

Sani’s words comes just about 24 hours after Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina state signed an order banning any form of unlawful assembly of people in any part of the state.
The ban was announced on Thursday, March 2 in Katsina in a statement signed by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media Abdu Labaran.
The statement read in part: “Gov. Masari declared that, any assembly of two or more persons in any part of Katsina state is hereby banned.
‘’The assembly by whatever name; whether the people are armed or any of its members is armed with any dangerous instrument which is likely to cause death or bodily injury is banned.”
