Full work has commenced on the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Vanguard reports.
The federal government had earlier announced that repair of the Abuja airport runway will commence immediately after its official closure at midnight on Wednesday, March 8.
The repairs of the airport runway is handled by Julius Berger Plc, a construction company based in Abuja.

Some officials of the company were seen moving men and equipment to the site of the repair.
It was gathered that the company has also marked the runway to prevent overzealous pilots from landing at the airport.

The federal government had estimated that repairs on the runway will cost Nigeria N5.8 billion.
The minister of state for aviation Hadi Sirika while briefing the Senate on the logistic implication of using Kaduna airport as an alternative means of landing said the relocation will cost N1.134 billion.

Sirika also said the Nigeria Railway Corporation will receive N100.33 million, while the Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and Nigeria police will get N237.24 million, N325 million and N358.5 million respectively.
He also said the Nigeria Immigration Service will receive N29 million and N84 million will be used to pay for buses that will convey passengers from Kaduna to Abuja during the period of repairs.
