IPOB warns Obiano, vows to stop pro-Buhari rally

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Thursday, March 9, vowed to use all available means to stop a rally planned by Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state to show support for President Muhammadu Buhari, The Punch reports.

Obiano’s solidarity rally is scheduled to hold on Friday, March 10, in Awka, the Anambra state capital, following reports that President Buhari is making his return back to the country.

But in a statement by IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, a pro-Buhari rally in Anambra state, or any other part of the South-East, would be a display of ‘insensitivity’ to the plight of pro-Biafran agitators allegedly killed by federal government troops since the commencement of the Buhari administration.

Powerful said: “The Indigenous People of Biafra worldwide and its leadership warn Governor Willie Obiano, along with certain elements within the All Progressives Congress in Anambra state, to shelve the solidarity rally in support of Buhari government or face the incalculable consequences of their actions at the hands of the people.

“IPOB will use all available means to stop this show of crass insensitivity to our brave heroes and heroines killed by Buhari.”

Meanwhile, the All Progressive Grand Alliance, Anambra state chapter, has said it would not participate in the rally.

The presidency on Thursday, March 9, announced that he President Muhammadu Buhari is expected back into the country on Friday, March 10.

The announcement comes 50 days after the President Muhammadu Buhari wrote a letter to the Senate seeking a ten day leave.

The President left the country on January 19, 2017 for a vacation, during which he had routine medical check-ups.

However, the holiday was extended based on doctors’ recommendation for further tests and rest.
