Historical performance of the national team of Iceland in the European championship 2016 in France has dramatically influenced demographic situation of the island nation.
At a debut continental championship Icelanders reached quarterfinal, where they were defeated by the hosts of the tournament and future finalists of Euro 2016(2:5). It was France.

However, the most memorable match was the victory over England in the 1/8 final. Wayne Rooney began scoring on the fourth minute, but Sigurdsson and Sigthórsson just before the half-time brought victory to Iceland. 9 months after Euro 2016 the maternity ward of the National hospital of the country witnessed a real boom of population growth. The doctors believe that these events are connected with each other.
