Jibrin says President Buhari has to do more about the falling value of the naira

Jibrin, a staunch supporter of President Buhari, in a tweet on his verified Twitter handle on Friday, March 17 noted that while he is delighted that the Nigerian leader has released funds to pay salaries of workers, he was seriously concerned that the money they are receiving is almost worthless.

He noted that the president has to do a lot more to ensure that the money paid to workers has enough value for them to be able to really gain from it and thus appreciate Nigeria’s number one citizen.

Jibrin’s words come just about a day after President Buhari directed the minister of finance Kemi Adeosun and the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Godwin Emefiele to act appropriately and release the second tranche of the London-Paris Club refunds to the states in order to ease their financial hardships.

President Buhari, who was presented with a ‘get well soon’ card during his meeting with state governors, directed CBN and finance ministry to release Paris Club refunds to states immediately.

The President, who addressed the meeting of the National Economic Council made up of state governors and chaired by the vice-president on Thursday in Abuja, however, made a strong case for settlement of unpaid salaries and pension liabilities of their workers.

Some Nigerians who reacted to Jibrin’s words agree. They, however noted that even he as a federal lawmaker has a role to play in stabilising the naira.

Others expressed concern over whether the funds will get to the workers in the first place.
