The Senate on Thursday, March 23, rejected the nomination of two non-career ambassadorial nominees presented for approval by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Zenithblog.com gathered that the nominees Justice Sylvanus Nsofor from Imo state and Mr Jacob Daodu from Ondo state were rejected by the Senators based on the Committee report, while 45 non-career ambassadors were approved.
The Senate committee on foreign affairs, chaired by Monsurat Sunmonu, APC-Oyo which screened of nominees, presented its report at the plenary on Thursday.

Nsofor, 82, during his screening, refused to recite the national anthem and questioned the Senators’ reason for asking him for the recital.
According to Mrs. Sunmonu, Nsofor pushed back a question on his suitability for the job of an envoy in view of his age.
Mrs. Sunmonu quoted the nominee as saying the Senate should ask Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe how he was leading his country despite his very advanced age.
Senate president, Bukola Saraki thanked the Foreign affairs Committees for the screening and congratulated the Ambassadors.

The president of the Senate, read President Buhari’s letter which contained a revised list of 46 non-career ambassadorial nominees for legislative approval to the lawmakers on Thursday, January 12.
Recall that the Senate had rejected the first version of the list as a result of numerous petitions against the nominees
Several new names have emerged on the list while retired Justice George Oguntade (Lagos) and Ahmed Ibeto (Niger) maintained their nomination.
