President Buhari’s workload has taken a heavy cut but the presidency says it is not an indication that he may be unfit to carry out his duties
The Presidency has cut down heavily on President Muhammadu Buhari’s workload in order to allow him more time to rest, The Punch is reporting.
According to the report, since returning to the country on Friday, March 10 after spending 49 days in London, the United Kingdom on a medical vacation, President Buhari has spent just between three and four hours in his office throughout his first week of resumption.

Also during this time, no appointment was scheduled for him outside his office, except for the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting, which he presided over on Wednesday, March 15 and his brief appearance at the National Economic Council meeting on Thursday, March 16 that held in the Council Chambers just about 50 metres from his office.
An official who spoke on grounds of anonymity told The Punch: “As you can see, almost all the President’s engagements for the week were held inside his office. That was designed to allow him to rest. Hopefully, from the coming week, the President may participate in more activities.”
Another source said Buhari was still working from home.
“That the President returned to his residence earlier than he had been doing does not necessarily mean that he will go to sleep as soon as he returns home,” the source said.
Explaining why the president sometime had just one item on his agenda in a day in his first week back, Femi Adesina, a special adviser to President Buhari on media and publicity, said: “When a man just returns from a medical vacation, common sense dictates that he eases himself gradually into a schedule that is naturally rigorous.”

On if the reduction in workload does not imply the president is no longer fit enough to continue to discharge his responsibilities, Adesina said President Buhari himself had answered the question.
He said: “The answer to your question has been given by the President himself. On the day he came, he vowed to rededicate himself to serving Nigerians, and when governors met him on Thursday, one of them asked him to do the minimum, so that he can serve Nigeria for a longer time. He responded by saying it is time to repay those who elected him into office by working harder for them.”
ZENITHBLOG.com recalls that just some days ago, President Buhari told governors in the country that he does not need more rest as he is concerned with the challenges facing Nigeria.
The president said this on Thursday, March 16, 2017 when he turned down an advice by the state governors for him to take more rest.
