Internally displaced persons in Borno escape death as soldiers discover bomb close to camp (photo)

– The Nigerian army has said it discovered an IED some metres away from a camp of internally displaced persons in Borno

– Sani Usman, the spokesperson of the army, said the bomb was planted long ago

– It was successfully detonated by officers of the security organisation

What would have become a major catastrophe has been averted in Borno state, northeastern Nigeria, as soldiers of the Operation Lafiya Dole discovered improvised an explosive device close to an internally displaced persons’ camp.

The development was confirmed by Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman, the director of army public relations late Monday, September 25.

“Troops of 3 Battalion, 22 Brigade Nigerian Army on Operation LAFIYA DOLE averted a disaster on Sunday 24th September 2017 when, on routine patrol, they discovered and safely detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted near the internally displaced persons’ camp in Rann, Kala Balge local government area of Borno state by suspected Boko Haram terrorists long ago.

“The IED which was carefully concealed and planted about 300 metres to the camp, was discovered and safely detonated by the Explosive Ordinance Device (EOD) team of the unit,” the statement obtained by ZENITHBLOG.com stated.

ZENITHBLOG.com earlier reported that troops of 1 Division of the Nigerian army and operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) on Sunday, September 24, arrested two suspected illegal arms dealers along Funtua-Gusau road in Zamfara state.

This was contained in a statement issued by Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman who is the director of army public relations on Monday, September 25.
