Security chiefs storm Maiduguri to celebrate Nigeria's Independence Day

– The Chief of Air Staff and the Chief of Defence Staff have arrived Maiduguri, Borno state

– They are in the city to meet with with the Chief of Army Staff, tukur Buratai

– The security chiefs are in Maiduguri to celebrate the 57th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, arrived in Maiduguri on Saturday, September 30, accompanied by the Chief of Defence Staff, General AG Olonisakin.

Also in Maiduguri are the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas and the Director General of the Department of State Services, Alhaji Lawal Daura.

According to a statement signed by the director of public relations and information of the Nigerian Air Force, Olatokubo Adesanya, the security chiefs are in Maiduguri largely to celebrate the 57th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria with the frontline personnel who are fighting terrorism in the northeast.

This, according to the Nigerian Air Force, is expected to serve as a morale booster to the frontline personnel and to let them know that the nation appreciates their sacrifices.

The security chiefs are also seizing the opportunity to interact with relevant field commanders involved in the counterterrorism operations.

Meanwhile, ZENITHBLOG.com previously reported that some Boko Haram terrorists attacked a military barrack in Bama, Borno state, around 6.30pm on the evening of September 30.

ZENITHBLOG.com gathered that the attack, which lasted about an hour, claimed several lives.

The terrorists stormed the barrack but were confronted by officers of the Nigerian army who prevented them from gaining access into the barracked.

It is yet uncertain how many lives were lost in the fire exchanges, but a source of Daily Post claimed that the soldiers were able to kill some of the attackers.
