The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has said the party will offer President Muhammadu Buhari an automatic ticket should he decide to contest in the 2019 election.

Oyegun made the statement on Monday, May 29 in Abuja when addressing the media on the midterm scorecard of the APC-led administration, This Day reports.
The party chairman who insisted that the president had performed well, downplayed the impact of the ill-health of Buhari on governance and the party.
John Odigie-Oyegun insisted that Buhari had performed well.
He said the president’s health would not adversely affect the APC’s bid to retain power in 2019.
“The thinking that ‘will he be president in 2019’ is really not doing any good, his need today is good health. When we get to 2019, it is for him to decide if he wants to run or if he doesn’t want to run and to consult the party on his decision.
“If he wants to run good and if he doesn’t want to run the country isn’t bereft, the party isn’t bereft of capable hands.”
However, Oyegun noted that the issue of the candidacy of the party in the 2019 presidential election was not a priority now.
He said it what was important was for all to pray for God to restore the president to robust, good health.

“Why build bridges if there is no river to cross? Why don’t you wait until you come across a river then you build a bridge. With all due respect, for what it stands for, what is critical today is that our prayer is our good Lord will restore the president to robust, good health; that is the first thing.
“But the prime thing that he will be considering today isn’t to think of 2019. It is to have his health fully restored and I am sure he will give anything just to have his health restored. Let’s terminate it at that point; when 2019 comes we will deal with the issues that arise,” Oyegun said.
Meanwhile, a report by Sahara Reporters claims President Muhammadu Buhari may return to Nigeria next week.
According to a tweet by the online newspaper, Buhari may return to Nigeria from the United Kingdom next week, “but nobody is willing to state his health condition.”
