JUST IN: We are not recruiting – DSS

– The Department of State Services has debunked reports that the agency is currently recruiting staff

– The DSS said the claims by some individuals that the secret police is recruiting is false and aimed at defraud unsuspecting members of the public

– The service further warns that it will, in accordance with the law, not hesitate to deal decisively with anyone caught in the act of impersonating it

The Department of State Services has debunked reports that the agency is currently recruiting staff.

The DSS said the claims by some individuals that the secret police is recruiting is false and aimed at defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

In a statement signed by Tony Opuiyo of the secret police national headquarters in Abuja, the DSS said: “The attention of the State Security Service (SSS) has once again been drawn to the illegal activities of some fraudulent persons and groups who extort money from unsuspecting members of the public with a promise to employ them into the service.”

Opuiyo said, the service wishes to state that it is not currently employing or carrying out any form of recruitment exercise.

He said: “The public may note that in the event that the Service recruits, it does not charge money for that purpose. The public is therefore, advised to be wary of these fraudulent persons and groups whose stock in trade has remained the spread of falsehood and engagement in impersonation.

The service further warns that it will, in accordance with the law, not hesitate to deal decisively with anyone caught in the act of impersonating it.

While efforts have been sustained at uncovering the network of these fraudsters, the public is enjoined to pass relevant information relating to this to the nearest Service Command,” Opuiyo concluded.

The agency’s announcement comes on the heels of reports that DSS is currently involved in a lopsided recruitment process which allegedly favoured the North.

ZENITHBLOG.com had earlier reported that the Federal Character Commission (FCC) was taking steps to sue the secret police over the illegal recruitment.

It was gathered that the FCC had directed the DSS to submit its nominal roll for scrutiny.
