A mass resignation of specialists’ personnel has hit LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomosho, The Guardian reports.
The movement involving 150 officials includes 100 nurses, 20 consultants, 10 laboratory scientists, five physiotherapists, six pharmacists and some resident doctors and ward orderlies.
This was disclosed by the branch chairman, Medical and Dental Consultant Association of Nigeria, D. Afolabi Salawu at a press conference on Thursday, June 1.

He said the resignation of the workers followed the inability of the hospital to pay the workers’ salaries.
He lamented that the institution, which was grossly under-staffed was losing its best hands, a situation that could have a negative effect on the state’s healthcare service delivery.
“Beside the fact that patients would no longer have assess to the professional service, the medical students would also loose the opportunity to learn in their specialised fields.
“The trend is also putting undue pressure on an already demoralised workforce,” Salawu said.

Recently, enraged students of LAUTECH prevented 2017 JAMB candidates from entering the premises of the institution to write their exams.
The students had mobilized themselves as early as 6.00 a.m for the action and stationed themselves in teams across all entrances into the institution.
