Acting President Yemi Osinbajo endorses Cross River’s 260km super highway

– The federal government has endorsed the construction of a 260 kilometre high by the Cross Rivers state government

– The highway which will cut across at least 16 local government areas is perceived as one of the major projects of the state governor Ben Ayade

– Osinbajo during his visit said the construction of the highway is “very important” and that the federal government was interested in it

The federal government has endorsed the construction of a 260 kilometre high by the Cross Rivers state government.

The highway which will cut across at least 16 local government areas is perceived as one of the major projects of the state governor Ben Ayade.

Although environmental activists have kicked against the project with the argument that it would destroy several species of plant and displace indigenous residents in the area, the acting president who visited Calabar said the high way represents creativity and big vision.

Osinbajo during his visit said the construction of the highway is “very important” and that the federal government was interested in it.

“There’s no point building a one-kilometre road, I mean that can be done anywhere,” Mr. Osinbajo said.

“It takes courage, it takes vision, it takes farsightedness to say I am going to build a road that passes through 16 or so of the 18 local government areas. That’s a big vision.

The acting president also promised that the presidency will provide the level of support needed for the completion of the project.

He also commended the achievement of the Ayade administration in the state for their cleanliness and conduct in Calabar.

“Everybody that comes to Calabar must talk about the cleanliness here, and I am so excited to see that.

“You have set a standard in this country, not just for the green you see all over the place, the beautiful trees you see all over the place, but also for the cleanliness. And I really hope that you will maintain that high standard.

“I am glad that I am in the home of Afang and Edikan Ikong soup, I’ll be enjoying myself and I am looking forward to dinner this evening.”

ZENITHBLOG.com had earlier reported that the acting president was in Calabar on Thursday, June 1, for an official assignment.

Osinbajo also met with with school children who excitedly welcomed him to the state.
