Dino Melaye in HOT SOUP as constituents list 4 major reasons they want him recalled

– Kogi West senatorial constituents have maintained that they want Dino Melaye recalled from the Senate

– They also listed reasons why they want Dino Melaye recalled

The people of Kogi West constituents have maintained they want the senator representing them Dino Melaye to be recalled from the Senate.

The members of the constituents said they have succeeded in collating 188,500 signatures out of 360,000 registered voters in Kogi West.

Speaking after submitting the signature gathered to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Cornelius Olowo said, the need for the recall of Melaye is based on the performance.

Olowo said since Melaye was elected in 2015, there is yet to be any significant thing the senator has done for the people of Kogi West.

He also said from the signatures gathered so far, they constituents have been able to record 52% of the electoral area needed for Melaye’s recall.

4 MAJOR reasons we want Dino Melaye recalled - Kogi West constituents

The constituents submitted 188,500 signatures to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the recall process

Below are three of the major reasons Olowo listed:

1. Low performance

Leading the people of Kogi West to INEC’s headquarters, Olowo said, the senator has Melaye has an “abysmal performance” since assuming office in 2015.

2. Dino has distanced himself from his people

The constituent members said Melaye has totlaly distanced himself from the people of Kogi West.

Olowo said “In the last two years, some senators have been meeting with their people quarterly. They update them on what has been happening and seek their contributions on issues and their aspirations to be presented at the senate.”

3. No town hall meeting

Olowo also said the embattled senator is yet to organize a town hall meeting in the constituency.

class="align-left">He said: “For the past two years, Sen. Malaye has not organised one town hall meeting anywhere in Kogi West to meet with the people to present his scorecard or stewardship.”

“He has been completely disconnected from the people. Since he won his election and the legal battle at the court, he is no longer reachable,” Olowo said.

4. Constituency office

Lamenting on the activities of Dino Melaye, the members of the constituent said there is not constituent office in Kogi West senatorial district.

Olowo said the absence of an office has also contributed to the peoples’ inabilty to reach Melaye on pressing issues.

He said: He has no constituency office in Kogi West as we speak, as a way to reach him on matter of interests from the people that elected him.’’

He further added that the petition had signatures of registered voters in the senatorial district, who endorsed the recall.

“We have over 360,000 registered voters in Kogi West and after about one week of collection of signatures, we were able to gather over 188,500 signatures, endorsing the recall of the senator.

“We have submitted the petition at the office of INEC Chairman. It is now left for INEC to go and do confirmation of the signatures before going on the process needed for the recall,” Olowo said.

ZENITHBLOG.com had earlier reported that INEC received 188,588 signatures for the recall of Melaye from Senate.

The signatures which managed to exceed the 51.1% required from the constituency for such action was submitted to INEC on Wednesday, June 21.

The commission received six bags containing the signature from the Kogi West constituents amidst other petitions too.
