Part of the statement read: “The students body wishes to use this opportunity to state categorically that the National Association of Nigerian Students is not a political association and does not dabble into partisan politics.

“For the purposes of emphasis, NANS is the umbrella body of Nigerian students and only advocates for the well-being and welfare of Nigerian students and speaks only on issues of national concerns as it relates to and affects students.

“The canons and charter that established NANS is instructive and the requirements for recognition of membership of the National Association of Nigerian Students is studentship with a valid admission letter and ID Card.

“NANS as a responsible organization however holds its former leaders in high esteem and recognizes them as stakeholders.”

The association stated that the only group of persons authorized to speak for NANS are the student leadership led by the duly elected and recognized president.

The statement noted that NANS is a responsible organization and holds eminent Nigerians in high esteem.

“The attempt by the unknown group no matter the position they previously held in NANS to leverage the respected name and platform of NANS to rubbish the person and personality of the Distinguished Senator Andy Uba and in indeed any Nigerian of high repute is not acceptable,” the statement said.

NANS therefore callsed on all former members and leaders of the body to be responsible and desist from using the name of the organization for political purpose.

The statement further called on its past leaders to close ranks on issues that concern its members and mobilize resources to support each other in times of need to sustain the bond and affinity that the organization is known for.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) youths in Anambra state have cautioned the declared winner of the party governorship primaries, Honorable Tony Nwoye, against justifying impunity.

In a press statement sent to ZENITHBLOG.com on Thursday, September 14, the youths frowned at the conduct of Nwoye since the party’s appeal panel committee was set up.

They accused Nwoye of importing the impunity he was known for in the Peoples Democratic Party into the APC.
