Breaking news: Factional students' associations clash over ASUU strike in Abuja (photos, video)

There is currently a clash going on between two factions of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) at the Unity Fountain in Abuja.

A first group, had assembled at the Unity Fountain to protest the ongoing strike action by ASUU when another group, appeared to counter the protest.

While the anti-strike group led by Haruna Kadiri urged the federal government to do all within its power to ensure that the ongoing strike by ASUU is called off, the second group led by Ade Abayomi said they are not at the fountain for a clash.

Abayomi who spoke to ZENITHBLOG.com said it is clear to everyone that Kadiri is not a student.

“He has no admission letter, and we have said it times without number that due process must be followed,” Abayomi said.

He added that the faction had written to the federal government of the association’s demand.

He said a 21-day ultimatum had already been given to the government on the ongoing strike.

Meanwhile, NANS has given a 7-day ultimatum to the Niger state government over the health situation of one of its former leaders.

In an emergency resolution issued in Abuja on Friday, September 1, the students body tasked the Niger State government as a matter of urgency, to take over the medical bill of Dauda Mohammed a former president of NANS from Niger state.

ZENITHBLOG.com gathered that the resolution was also signed by all former presidents and former national and zonal executives members of NANS.
