Wike deals Amaechi dirty blow for allegedly leaving N37.9bn debt in Rivers

The governor of Rivers state Nyesom Wike has accused his predecessor Rotimi Amaechi of stealing the state blind.

Wike said he inherited a N37.9 billion debt from the past governor.

Speaking after Amaechi criticized present administration in the state, Wike said his predecessor only returned to Port Harcourt to launder his image.

He also said Amaechi move is in line with the All Progressive Congress (APC) to revive the party’s collapsed structure.

ZENITHBLOG.com had reported that the former governor in a live radio interview in the state had said Wike was running the state amok.

However in response to Amaechi’s criticism, Wike said: “We inherited N14.7 billion as salaries and pensions from the Amaechi administration, which we cleared; N23.2 billion bank loan was also inherited and cleared by us.

“Another agriculture loan obtained by that administration was cleared by my administration. When I was chief of staff to Amaechi, all council chairmen and commissioners were paying N3 million and N2 million, respectively, to Amaechi’s wife monthly,” Wike said.

Wike said APC’s plot to rig the 2019 election in state will fail, “as the people would resist any form of electoral robbery.”
