– Ijaw Youth Council )IYC) has said Acting President Yemi Osibanjo should address the cause of the national agitation and tension rather than holding talks with regional groups
– The youth body said continuous talks without restructuring Nigeria is only postponing the evil day for the nation
– The body warned northern youths not to execute their quit notice to southerners saying if any southerner is killed, it will retaliate in the south
The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), the umbrella body of Ijaw youths worldwide on Thursday said that talks by Acting President Yemi Osinbanjo with various regional and ethnic leaders over quit notice and regional agitations will only yield needed results if the root cause of the agitations and tensions are addressed alongside the meetings.
In an email to ZENITHBLOG.com, President of the IYC, Eric Omare, said holding meetings and talks calling for peace but abandoning practical steps that will nail the agitations and tension in the country only amounted to postponing the evil days which are time bomb that will explode following government’s negligence of the real issues.
Omare said practical steps were necessary as neglecting the issues that led to the rising tension cannot bring needed solution to the crisis bedeviling the nation.

“The IYC is saying that Nigeria and Nigerians have deceived themselves enough and it is time to face the reality which is that the centre can no longer hold except steps are taken to reconstruct Nigeria to satisfy the yearnings and aspirations of the different ethnic nationalities making up the country.

“It is on record that the southern parts
“However, the opposition of the Hausa/Fulani oligarchy of northern Nigeria is holding the entire country to ransom in the quest for restructuring.
“It is now obvious that restructuring is an idea whose time has come and no amount of Hausa/Fulani oligarchy opposition can stop it from coming to a reality,” Omare noted.
In a related development and in reaction to the insistence of northern youths on the October 1, 2017 quit notice date, the IYC has aligned itself with the position of southern leaders in calling on northern youths not to attack anybody from the south in the name of enforcing their quit notice.

The IYC said any attack on anybody of southern extraction would be taken as a declaration of war on the entire southern Nigeria, adding that the IYC shall retaliate such action with the appropriate response it deemed fit.
“If any southerner is attacked in the north as a result of the quit notice, it would also be an eye for an eye in the south,” the IYC president said.
Consequently, the IYC called on Acting President Yemi Osinnajo to take steps towards addressing the causes of the tension in the country rather than embarking on what it described as talk shows.
