Those who are familiar with the antecedents of the minister know that he doesn’t fail to deliver when he makes promises like that.

Not even his enemies or political opponents would deny his penchant for delivering on his mandate and set targets.

Within a short spell in charge of the transport ministry, positive change is being noticed and felt in the railway sector and other areas.

A perfect case is the Abuja-Kaduna rail line, which the minister gave a timeline for its completion and he delivered.

“The minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and his team have put great efforts in the last few months to ensure the successful completion of this project under this administration.

“I am pleased to complete and commission it,” President Muhammadu Buhari

said at the launch of the project.

The same can be said of the closure of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, which he and the minister of state – aviation; Captain Hadi Sirika, worked tirelessly to ensure that the six weeks given for the runway repairs of the airport was strictly adhered to.

At the time he resumed, Amaechi made it clear that he was ready to make an impact in the ministry of transportation.

He told the staff of the ministry when he resumed, “I belief in the principles of discharging my duties. We are interested in completing all ongoing rail projects around the country because we don’t want to disappoint Nigerians.

“It is important that we realise that we have a mandate to deliver on our promises and there is competition among the ministers to deliver and we don’t want to take last.”

Shortly after his inauguration as minister by President Buhari in November 2015, Amaechi made certain promises to Nigerians.

They include:

1. To find a new course toward completing ongoing projects;

2. To complete all ongoing rail projects around the country;

3. To extend rail lines to all parts of the country;

4. To ensure a smooth working relationship with the Minister of State for Aviation for the development of the sector;

5. To fulfill President Buhari’s change agenda;

6. To combat corruption;

7. To look for the budget of the ministry and it’s implementation;

8. To always play by rule.

Almost two years down the line, it is safe to say that the minister is o course to delivering his promises.
