President Buhari-led government appoints Timi Dakolo, Mr Eazi as ambassadors

– Federal government has given two popular musicians, Timi Dakolo and Mr Eazi important appointments

– The duo alongside Saadatu Aliyu of the World Economic Forum’s Abuja Global Shapers Hub were appointed as anti-tobacco ambassadors

– The ministry of health said their appointment was to leverage on their influence with the youths

Nigerian music superstars, Timi Dakolo and Mr Eazi, have been appointed by the federal government as anti-tobacco ambassadors.

ZENITHBLOG.com gathered that the duo alongside Saadatu Aliyu of the World Economic Forum’s Abuja Global Shapers Hub were appointed to leverage on their influence with the young people of Nigeria.

The appointment was part of the announcement made by the ministry of health for a planned launch of a six months national tobacco control communications campaign.

Isaac Adewole, the minister of health, had during the World No Tobacco Day announced nine regulations in the Nigeria Tobacco Control Act 2015 to be enforced by the federal government.

The statement reads: “The Tobacco-Free Nigeria’ campaign, aims to educate Nigerians on the NTC Act 2015 and raise awareness on the dangers of tobacco smoke.

“The campaign will leverage on social media and offline interactions to reach young Nigerians, especially second-hand smokers who need to be aware of the ban of smoking in public places and protect themselves.”

As part of the commemoration of the day, Isaac Adewole, Nigeria’s Health Minister announced 9 regulations in the Nigeria Tobacco Control Act that would be implemented by the federal government.

Federal government appoints Saadatu Aliyu as anti-tobacco ambassadors.

The Act which was signed into law in 2015 by former President Goodluck Jonathan aims at reducing Tobacco use in the country.

World Health Organization (WHO) has revealed that tobacco kills over seven million people annually, and is an increasing risk factor in non-communicable (NCDs), including cardiovascular disease, cancers and chronic obstructed pulmonary disease.
