A 38-year-old commercial motorcycle rider, Bitrus Chukwudi Ugwuanyi, was allegedly killed for refusing to give a police officer N50 bribe in Enugu state.
ZENITHBLOG.com gathered that crisis looms between officers of Enugu police command and residents of Ikpa-modo, Enugu Ezike, in Igboeze North Local Government Area, as both trades blame over the death of Ugwuanyi.
According to Vanguard newspaper, Ugwuanyi was reportedly carrying a pregnant woman from Obollo Afor in Udenu Local Government to Ogrute in Enugu Ezike, when he was stopped by policemen at a checkpoint at Ugwu Ekposhi and asked to pay N50.
He reportedly told the officer that he didn’t have the money because he just started work and the pregnant woman was his first client for the day.

According to an eyewitness, Ugwuanyi was shot in the presence of his passenger after he refused to give N50 bribe to the police officer.

It was further alleged that when it dawned on the policeman that his victim was dead, he quickly raised an alarm that the dead man snatched his AK-47 riffle, which led to the arrival of members of the Igboeze North Central Neighbourhood Watch at the scene.
The Neighbourhood Watch members were said to have fired more shots on the dead body, before they paraded the corpse around the town, celebrating that he was killed for allegedly “snatching a gun from a policeman.”

Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, said that the police would rely on the information that Ugwuanyi was killed in the course of trying to retrieve the AK-47 riffle until the contrary was proved.

He however encouraged the family to raised a petition to the state commissioner, Danmalam Mohammed if they believed there was a foul play in the report that led to their kinsman’s death.
Amaraizu said: “The state Police Commissioner will order a thorough investigation if the family brings any petition over the issue.
“He is a no-nonsense man, who does not spare or condone any misconduct from his officers and would not hesitate to deal decisively with offenders. Let them come up with their complaints.”
Meanwhile, there are reports of tension in Kaduna after soldiers allegedly killed four persons on Friday, June 9.
In an exclusive report to ZENITHBLOG.com by a witness, he claimed the incident occurred when a boy in Television Area of the state tried to haul sand away possibly for sale.
According to the report, one of the soldiers in the area allegedly fired at the boy.
This sparked outrage among the youths who reportedly came out demanding for justice.
The altercation degenerated into a heated confrontation with three of the youths getting shot by the soldiers.
