OPINION: If Nigeria is a zoo, is Kanu and followers the animals?

Editor’s note: With total disregard to millions of people who are proud of their country, Nigeria, Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous of People of Biafra (IPOB) in efforts to achieve his aim of seceding from the country called Nigeria a zoo.

In this opinion, Aanu Adegun, a Nigerian journalist writes about Nnamdi Kanu, his followers and their unwholesome practices of calling Nigeria a zoo.

Is it not appropriate to call Nnamdi Kanu and his followers animals when they blatantly label Nigeria a zoo?

Well, this might sound strange, absurd or even insulting but before you crucify me, let me explain my reasons for asking the question why some peoples’ hero and agitator called Nnamdi Kanu and his followers shouldn’t be considered types of breeds in ‘the zoological republic’ they label Nigeria.

Nigeria is not a zoo and I believe millions of Nigerians out their are proud of there country despite her numerous challenges

Nigeria is not a zoo and I believe millions of Nigerians out there are proud of their country despite her numerous challenges

My reason is simple: MINDSET. Their mindset.

But let us settle this before I proceed. What is a zoo exactly? I read: ‘A zoo is an establishment which maintains a collection of wild animals.’

That is, a home to wild animals. And Nnamdi Kanu, in his petty mightiness, by calling Nigeria a zoo, believes that, all other people who are not from his region or who support one Nigeria, are animals who live in a zoo! How wrong!

I am aware that some might claim calling Nigeria a zoo is a figurative way of expressing everything wrong with the country but no matter the rationalisation, this is an unacceptable line of reasoning.

Nigeria is not a zoo and I believe millions of Nigerians out there are proud of their country despite our numerous challenges.

So what this means in clear terms is that Nnamdi Kanu and his followers who believe Nigeria is a zoo ironically live in that generated zoo of their mindset and as such, is it wrong for us to describe them as the wild pack of animals on show in the zoo? I’m just asking?

Read me, I’m not disputing the fact that Nigeria is filled with agonising, irritating and factually avoidable challenges but no matter the sins of Nigeria, Don’t you think Kanu crossed the line in labeling Nigeria a zoo. For me, I strongly think so.

Consider this please, in an extreme case, if a man has a father who is a monumental embarrassment of a generation. I mean a father who acts more like a crossbreed between a pig and a he goat than a living being and a mother who dances

with mad men in the morning and caresses diseased dogs mid-afternoon, will that man look his parents in the eyes and say, ‘father, you are a goat and mother, you have no other name than a dog?’

In as much that as a rational human being, you cannot label your parents animals no matter their unspeakable sins and dispositions, why then call Nigeria a zoo?

Yes, Nnamdi Kanu and his followers have the right to agitate for a breakaway from Nigeria but do you think they have the right to rubbish Nigerians as a collective people while pursuing their agitation?

Even the more maligned lepers, will you call them animals? Then why Nigeria? Why call Nigeria a zoo when you know that only animals live in zoos? Where is your sense of respect to your fellow man? Where is your sense of respect to the maker who created us in his own image and likeness?

However, to those who believe in the actualization of Biafra but who see Nigeria as a home and not a zoo until the Biafran dream possibly come true, my apologies, this is not for you. But to those who insist Nigeria is a zoo, no apologies. You have ‘drawn’ sour milk from a rotten melon and you must swallow the vinegar that comes with it.

And wait, if, let us say you eventually ‘get’ Biafra, won’t you have neighbours? And how will you relate with animals if you are surrounded by zoos as you have projected them beneath humans?

On a personal note, I believe Nnamdi Kanu and his followers who are fond of calling Nigeria a zoo should be called animals. The appellation ANIMAL should precede their names whenever they utter such unfathomable word zoo in describing Nigeria.
