A civil society organization on Sunday, June 4, called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the minister of labour and productivity Chris Ngige.
The Organization Advocates for Peace and Effective Justice Development Initiative (APEJDI) alleged that the minister purchased a property worth $922,600 (N334.68 million) in the United States of America.
In a petition to the chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, the group urged the agency to investigate the source of the money allegedly used to buy the US property by Ngige.

The petition which was signed by the national coordinator of the group Maxwell Alaeto said Ngige bought the property shortly after he left office as governor of Anambra state.
Alaeto said the property which was purchased on March 7, 2008, is located at 13910,Crest Hill Lane, Crest Hills Acres, Silver Spring, Montgomery county Maryland, United States.
He said: “The Federal government cannot be seen to be paying lip service to her much orchestrated fight against corruption.”
“Nobody is above the law. We therefore implore you sir, to cause an investigation to be carried out in the over all interest of the people of Anambra State and the country in general,” Alaeto said.

“Therefore, as part of our contributions to the Federal government fight against corruption, we humbly call for the investigation of the source of the funds expended by Dr. Chris Ngige in the purchase of the property,” Alaeto said.
He further alleged that the said property was also not included in Ngige’s asset declaration form which is currently with the Code of Conduct Bureau as a senator and a serving minister in Nigeria.

Ngige reacting to a statement by the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra said he is a consummate Igbo leader who would never disparage the Igbo or work against their interest.
