BREAKING: Trouble for Biafra agitators as Senate orders arrest of anybody calling for breakup of Nigeria

The Nigerian senate has ordered security agencies in the country to immediately arrest and prosecute anybody calling for the breakup of Nigeria.

ZENITHBLOG.com learnt that the Senate gave the order at plenary on Wednesday, June 14 while deliberating on the motion: The need for National Unity and Peaceful Coexistence in Nigeria.

The motion was raised in response to the persistent calls for secession in the south-east and the controversy generated by the quit notice issued on all Igbos residing in the north by a coalition of Arewa youth groups.

Contributing to the motion, Senator Shehu Sani, stated that it was not unusual in the history of a nation not to face this kind of issue, from the south, east, north and west.

He however urged politicians to have the courage and conviction to desist from making avoidable mistake that could plunge of the country into crisis.

Senator Adeyeye on his part, said most nations learn lessons from one civil war and coordinate their affairs as to not have another one ever.

“In the history of the World unity pays, Nigeria is the beauty of Africa,” he said

in his submission, Senate minority leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, lamented that across the entire country the forces of division had arisen.

“The respect we enjoy all over the World today is as a result of our unity and size Look at a Country like Sudan, with all their wealth they can’t enjoy it again because they are at war, some people have not witnessed civil war before, I did,” he said.

After several other senators made their submissions on the issue, the lawmakers unanimously reached a resolution that Nigerian is an indivisible, indissoluble sovereign Nation under God.

They then mandated the security agencies to prosecute those calling for Nigeria’s break up.

The also demanded for the report of the 2014 National Constitutional Conference (NCC) with a view to studying and to give it parliamentary backings to the resolutions passed and adopted by the House.

Meanwhile, the Acting President on Tuesday, June 13, began consultations with leaders of thought from the North and warned that the government would deal decisively with persons who make hate speeches or attempt to disrupt the peace of the country.

ZENITHBLOG.com learnt that the acting president noted that was not what the country desired at this time and urged those involved to desist or face the full weight of law.

The Acting President said that the warning was very important because “we cannot control violence once it begins.’’

According to him there are people who may deride such speeches and others who may say that the hate speeches which show intolerance and promote division are not important and should be ignored.
