Nigeria Senate has confirmed 82-year old retired justice Sylvanus Nsofor from Imo state as an ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Nsofor’s nomination by the Presidency was initially rejected by the lawmakers but President Buhari insisted on the retired justice and renominated him again.
In confirming him, the Senate also ignores DSS report against him.

The Senate also confirmed Joseph Iji (Ondo) and Yusuf Hinna (Gombe) at the plenary on Wednesday.
The confirmation was based on the recommendation of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs.
ZENITHBLOG.com had reported that the Nigerian Senate has begun the screening of 46 non-career ambassadors nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari.
President Buhari had re-submitted a list of 46 non-career ambassadors to the Senate for confirmation.

However, the chairperson of the Senate committee on foreign affairs Monsurat Sunmonu on Tuesday, February 7, said the screening is line with provisions of Section 171, Sub-section 4 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
