– The chiefs advise against creating unnecessary tension that could truncate the peaceful take off of the university in Okoerenkoko Delta state

The chairmen of Gbaramatu communities in Warri south west local government area of Delta state have appealed to their Itsekiri neighbours to embrace peace and work towards the successful take off of the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues on Wednesday, the chairman of Kokodiagbene community, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, told ZENITHBLOG.com that there was need to sustain the prevailing peace between the Ijaws and Itsekiris, noting that the Nigeria Maritime University is for all Nigerians and not for the Ijaws only.

Mulade stated that it is needless to create a chaotic atmosphere in the Gbararmatu area to prevent the smooth take off of academic activities in the university, and implored the Itsekiris to advise those he described as enemies of progress in the area to desist.

The Ijaw community leader advised against creating unnecessary tension in Gbaramatu kingdom so as to allow peaceful take off of academic activities in the Maritime University, Okerenkoko.

He

urged the Itsekiri people to be wary of enemies of progress in the area and shun the temptation of being used to breach the peace as that would be counter-productive to the Maritime University that was established to usher in accelerated development to the Niger Delta region.

Comrade Mulade strongly appealed to the Itsekiris to embrace peace and work together with their Ijaw neighbours to protect the university for all Nigerian people

“All hands must be on deck to ensure early and smooth take off of the university,” he said.

He also warned politicians to stop instigating ethnic war and allow the people to live together in peace for the overall development of the area.

He charged disgruntled politicians to allow the people to know peace and stop deceiving the people in order to cause disaffection among Ijaw and Itsekiri neighbours.

He said: “The Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko is a federal institution and so it should not be seen as an Ijaw Institution. We should all come together and work towards the take -off of the University for our own good.”
