African Fashion Week Nigeria – it is a unique platform. Those designers who want to come into the spotlight but don’t have financial resources or even possibilities can do this within the platform.
Quite a number of people, especially young people in Nigeria have wonderful aptitudes as well as susceptibility to fashion. Having such potential they can do their best and, obviously, they will achieve success. All they need is a little support and promotion.
This platform plays an important role in implementing such assistance and support their dreams. Recently, Oba Elegushi claimed that fashion industry in Nigeria is capable of ending the period of economic recession. Without any doubt, these words of the Lagos State ruler is very likely to be true.
This year Africa Fashion Week Nigeria was opened on the 3rd of June. For this purpose, the authorities of Lagos State took a fundamental approach. They have chosen a special place – the iconic National Arts Theatre.
Previously, the Eko Hotel was thev enue for the AFW for three years succession. However, the decision to change location for the event was made. This is the next step for the African heritage and cultural background promotion on a world-wide basis.
Perhaps, you are not aware but 40 years ago, Nigeria was the hosting country for an event of universal importance – African Festival of Arts and Culture. As you might have guessed, the above-mentioned National Arts Theatre in Lagos was the venue for it. So, nothing happens by chance.
Last time, our country managed to show magnificence and splendor in all its glory. This time, according to the founder of AFWN, success was dramatic. Ronke Ademiluyi said that the iconic National Arts Theatre on the 3rd and the 4th of June was filled to the brim.

African styles and innovations presented by exhibitors reflected how talented these designers are. By the way, the AFWN 2017 participants were selected from different regions of the country and the continent as well. Everyone celebrated the platform opening as it turned creativity into sustainability.
The style of local fashionistas is definitely worthy of publication in the best journals in the world. Even the fashion capital of the world do not have this much gorgeous pieces. Lagos has the chance to consolidate its status as the capital of street fashion. There was a great number of designers who joined the event and put a lot of efforts into develop the industry and creativity.
It is also worth mentioning that this year, model Amira Ibrahim-Alfa became the AFW face of Nigeria. She is energetic, vigorous, and unafraid to fall outside the limits of the norm in terms of fashion. She is also a well-known person abroad, as she was trained in London. Amira personally made a great contribution to the fashion industry in Nigeria. That’s why she was chosen to represent the face of AFWN 2017.
