Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has unveiled a new plan for the distribution of relief materials to victims of terrorism after Boko Haram launched an unexpected attack on Maiduguri, Borno state in the night of June 7.
Osinbajo, who visited Maiduguri on Wednesday, June 8, said the new strategy would be defer from the old method of delivering materials to camps of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
According to him, under the new plan, officials will now deliver food items to the IDPs at their doorsteps in exchange for a pre-issued voucher.

A statement by the office of the acting president noted that while unfolding this new strategy, Osinbajo disclosed that the plan was part of the vision of President Muhammadu Buhari to catering for IDPs in the north-east region of the country.

“We are incorporating the voucher system which do not only make the process of relief distribution transparent, it will improve our own data collection and our national capacity to plan for what will be a quarterly exercise.

Osinbajo added that the federal government would work closely with states to provide other assistance including health services to the IDPs.
He commended the partnership support from international partners such as the United Nations, World Food Programme, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the military, the police, other security agencies and state governments in the region.
