You can’t tell God how and when to allow President Buhari die – PDP's Chief George tells Nigerians

– Chief Olabode George, a top PDP member, revealed why President Muhammadu Buhari cannot resign now even though he has been battling with ill-health

– Chief George also called for the restructuring of Nigeria in line with the last national conference organised by former President Goodluck Jonathan

Chief Olabode George, a top member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned a section of Nigerians asking President Muhammadu Buhari to resign based on ill-health.

George also castigated those wishing the president dead reminding them that they are not God and that they are taking politics beyond what it should be.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Chief George faulted the calls while speaking with some journalists in Lagos, describing them as wrong and inflammatory for anyone to pressure the president to step down from office just because he was having some health challenges.

Remember you are not God - PDP blasts those wishing Buhari dead

President Buhari is currently in London on a medical vacation

According to him, only the president and his managers can decide when he is incapacitated.

He disclosed that he is always praying for the president’s quick recovery, urging all Nigerians, irrespective of political allegiance, to do the same.

“You see, I don’t support the call by some people that the president should resign because of his health.

“Even though I have always been on different camps with the president, I do not think it is right for anybody to have evil thoughts towards him.

“He is ill and we can only wish him good health and pray for him; calling him to resign because of this is getting beyond politics. He is a human being and only God knows the appointed time for everyone.

“The holy book says we should always pray for people in authority; I think the president deserves everyone’s prayers, not comments that could even outrage some people and create unnecessary tension,” he reportedly said.

Bode George, though in PDP, says it is not patriotic calling for Buhari’s resignation

ZENITHBLOG.com learnt that while noting that Nigeria is experiencing some challenges which require everyone to join hands to overcome, he warned that inflammatory comments along ethnic and religious sentiments would escalate the tension in the land.

“People talk of restructuring to mean let everyone go on his way, let the country break and all of that. That to me is not the idea of restructuring.

“The restructuring that was approved at the last national conference, which I think is the right thing, is to make the centre less strong and make the states stronger; restructuring that will empower the states to control resources and give like 30 percent to the centre.

“That is the restructuring we are talking about. The form that will accelerate the development of the states, which in turn will fast track national development,” he said.

Meanwhile, the acting president, Yemi Osinbajo, has said Nigeria was better together than apart.

Osinbajo speaking during a courtesy call on the Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, in Cross River state, on Thursday, June 1, insisted that Nigeria cannot afford to disintegrate.

According to him, the diversity of the country was the reason why other countries have respect for Nigeria.

Obaseki made the vow on Wednesday, May 31 as he paid a condolence visit to the families of two women – Christiana Ariu and Martine Emoyon – who were raped and murdered by suspected herdsmen on May 22.

The harrowing incident occurred at Ewu in Esan-Central local government area of the state.

In a statement made available to ZENITHBLOG.com, the governor stated that the state government was putting in place measures to prevent the re-occurrence of such ugly episodes.

He also revealed that the state government had been unaware of the presence of the herdsmen and their Cattle in the bushes within the state.

Obaseki commiserated with the victims’ families

He said: “We are coming up with certain measures to prevent what has just happened from happening again in the future.

“We will be relying on every community to give us information on time, so that we can curb such situations before it happens again.

“If we had known that people have been in the bush with their cattle for a few weeks, we would have dislodged them from there.

“If it is to feed their cattle, then we will come up with methods where anybody who brings cattle can take them to a particular place, where everyone knows that they are there and the cattle cannot roam around.”

An eyewitness Ceril Ikhajigbe from Oko-Ojeme narrated what happened to the governor.

Ceril recalled the sad tale of how one of the deceased was raped, murdered, and the state in which her body was found.

In his words: “Our mother went to farm in the morning. Fulani herdsmen raped her and murdered her.

“When we found her, she was covered with blood. We had to check the body to confirm she was the one.

“From what we saw, she was dragged to the place we found her stark naked – dead. It is pathetic. This has never happened in Ewu land, Ishan.

“All our hope and security is in God’s hands.

“We are happy that you are here. We are afraid for our lives.

“We’ve been living with Hausa people here for over 30 years. But since this Fulani herdsmen got here, this is the first time such issue is happening.”

According to Ikhajigbe, the Fulani herdsmen settled in the bush and had been causing problems in the community since their arrival.

“We don’t farms again. People are afraid and have abandoned their farms. They don’t know who is next.

“We are all living in fear because of Fulani herdsmen. Some people have even moved away from their homes. These people can come anytime in the night to wreak havoc,” he said.

Another eye witness, Pastor Gilbert Enahoro, disclosed that after the attacks, soldiers came to their community and shot at their cars, rendering the car of a resident dysfunctional.

Governor Obaseki ordered a probe into the matter and mandated that the full report should be sent to the Chief of Army Staff.

Assuring them of his concern, the governor said: “I came here to commiserate with you on the sad, terrible and tragic occurrence. This is a national problem and we have discussed it at the National Security Meeting.

“These are not normal herdsmen – normal herdsmen don’t go about armed, killing and raping. These are terrorists and we will appreciate rapid intelligence from you on their whereabouts.”

Meanwhile, Obaseki followed in the footsteps of Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state who also vowed to evict herdsmen from his state last year.

ZENITHBLOG.com reported earlier that Fayose warned herdsmen to steer clear of his state or otherwise risk death to their cattle through poisoning.

The governor gave the warning on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at the World Press Freedom Day organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Oyo State Council in Ibadan.

He said he had instructed his people to poison water with a particular brand of chemical used against fungal attacks in the event of any herdsmen attack in Ekiti.

Fayose said the time had come for Nigerians to defend themselves in the face of unwarranted attacks and killings by suspected herdsmen across the country.

Panic as Lagos court receives another evidence against alleged corrupt judge

– There had been issues relating to the admissibility of some of the evidences against Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia and senior lawyer Godwin Obla

– Justice OH Oshodi of the Lagos state High Court however granted the duo permission to travel abroad for medical reasons

Justice OH Oshodi of the Lagos state High Court sitting in Ikeja, has admitted a new set of evidence in a document tendered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against, Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, a serving Federal High Court judge.

ZENITHBLOG.com reports that the embattled Ofili-Ajumogobia is standing trial alongside Godwin Obla, a senior lawyer, on a 30-count charge bordering on an alleged pe*version of the course of justice, unlawful enrichment and forgery.

The two defendants allegedly committed the offence on May 21, 2015, when they conspired to pervert the course of justice with the sum of N5 million.

More trouble for embattled Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia

An EFCC statement obtained by ZENITHBLOG.com said that at the last adjourned sitting on May 26, 2017, counsels to the defendants had opposed the admissibility of the evidence given by a prosecution witness, Tauheed Audu Musa, a former deputy comptroller-general of Customs.

The counsels to the defendants had argued that the evidence given by Musa, who is the third prosecution witness, PW3, was not reflected in the charges before them and even the court.

Musa had told the court how he was allegedly ordered by his former boss, Dikko Inde, a former comptroller-general of Customs, to give a paper containing Ofili-Ajumogobia’s Diamond Bank account details to one Musa Omale, with a directive that the sum of N12, 000, 000.00 that would be transferred to his (Omale’s) account be paid into Ofili-Ajumogobia’s account.

Iin her ruling on the admissibility of the evidence on Thursday, June 1, Justice Oshodi overruled the objection raised by counsels to the first defendants, O Akoni and Robert Clarke , and counsel to the second defendant, Chief Ferdinard O Obi, respectively.

Justice Oshodi ruled that “the witness cannot and should not be rejected from giving evidence in relation to the case” while granting leave to the defendants to seek medical treatment abroad.

Akoni, had sought the leave of the court to enable his client, Ofili-Ajumogobia, who is said to be suffering from high blood pressure and stress-related issues, to travel to the US for urgent medical attention.

However, the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, opposed the application on the grounds that Ofili-Ajumogobia might jump bail if allowed to travel outside the country for medical attention.

The judge, in his ruling, said: “I believe that the first defendant as a Federal High Court Judge has a lot to lose if she considers the idea of jumping bail.

“The Chief Registrar is hereby ordered to release the international passport of the first defendant to enable her travel abroad between June 7 and June13, 2017.

“The defendant must return the passport to the Chief Registrar on or before July 1, 2017.”

Justice Oshodi also granted Obla leave to travel to Houston, Texas, US for medical treatment but he was ordered to return his passport to the chief registrar on July 4, 2017.

The case was adjourned to July 6, 2017 for continuation trial.

ZENITHBLOG.com had earlier reported a fresh apprehension in the judiciary following the revelation that some judges allegedly received bribe from a senior lawyer.

Daniel Danladi, a detective with the special task force of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday, March 16, 2017 revealed to the Ikeja High Court that some judges received bribe from Dr Joseph Nwobike, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

Distort any queue and go for 6 months imprisonment-Rep members plan new bill

– The bill which the members of the House of Representatives think would change the fortunes of Nigeria scaled the second reading during plenary

– Abubakar Amuda-Kannike, the member who sponsored the bill, said Nigerians no more act with dcorum especially in public places

If a new bill being planned by the House of Representatives scales the third reading and is assented to, then it would be a criminal offence punishable by six months imprisonment for anyone to distort a queue in public places.

ZENITHBLOG.com can report that the last time such was adhered strictly to was during the military administration of Muhammadu Buhari in the 1980s which was implemented through the War Against Indiscipline (WAI).

The bill, it was learnt, scaled second reading on Thursday, June 1.

You may soon spend 6 months imprisonment for distorting any queue in public

The lawmakers passed the bill for third reading

Abubakar Amuda-Kannike, who sponsored the bill, led its debate arguing that it sought to ensure that Nigerians conducted themselves orderly in public places.

The lawmaker said Nigerians were used to distorting queues and going unpunished, a situation he kicked against while expressing worry that recent events show that Nigeria was on the verge of losing its cherished sense of nationalism, cultural identity and hospitality.

“The bill underscores the need to re-awaken a derailed national culture by proposing disciplinary measures to guide Nigerians in their daily behaviours.

“In our society today, out of total disregard for other persons, who strive to do the right thing by conducting themselves orderly in public places, a large number of Nigerians distort queues and go unpunished.

“The bill if passed shall provide a starting point of value and cultural re-orientation in Nigeria,” he said.

Amuda-Kannike further said he was optimistic that future generations would have a more sane society to help to shape morals, principles and respect for each other if the bill is passed.

“The bill underscores the need to re-awaken the derailed national culture by proposing disciplinary measures to guide Nigerians in their daily behaviours.

“Any nation that is not organised cannot have rapid growth.

“We should be seen as organised people from point of entry but we have accepted that anything goes.

“Every school should have civic education in its curriculum to instil patriotism and orderliness in the country,” he said.

In his contribution, another lawmaker, Sam Onuigbo, argued that bill would bring orderliness, equity, fairness and justice in the distribution of services in the country.

“It will be nice for us to be seen as orderly people from the point of entry into the country.

“By being orderly in all our activities, we will be transmitting good behavioural pattern to generations and this will promote a better society,” he said.

It also summoned the Auditor-General of the Federation (AGF), Ahmed Idris, and former Accountant-General of the Federation, Jonah Otunla, over the transaction.

The minister sent the permanent secretary in the ministry, Isa Dutse, to represent her, but the lawmakers refused to accept any excuse for her absence at the investigative hearing.

Before issuing the summons, the chairman of the committee, Oluwole Oke, said the three officials had violated the provisions of section 15 of the Public Procurement Act 2007 as it pertained to the role of procurement entities.

He told the permanent secretary that the minister must provide documents that include the president’s approval for the contract, agreement signed by the contractors and record of payment of the contract by the ministry.

He said the summons became necessary because there was a document from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation showing that they had paid N17 billion on the contract.
