“Only two people died while five others sustained injuries, with one of the youths a female, critically injured,” he said.
Elkana said that the clash was caused by the death of a 17-old boy who was allegedly tortured by members of the vigilance group.

Elkanah said that the second victim, a 20- year old man, was killed when members of the vigilance group used firearms to disperse the protesting youths.
He said that anti-riot police were drafted to the area to restore peace and bring the demonstration under control.

He said that two personnel of the vigilance group had been arrested by the police for arresting and torturing the 17-year old boy.
He added that investigation was on to arrest other people connected with the incident.
Elkanah said: “We have ordered the arrest of members of the vigilance group who were alleged to have arrested, kept and tortured the young man as they have no power to do so.
“There is no law authorising them to detain anybody talk less of torturing the person.
“They only have the power to arrest anyone who commit an offence in their presence and hand him over to the police.
“For keeping the deceased youth in their detention camp and torturing him, they will face the wrath of the law.
“If his death is linked to the torture, then they will be charged and the offense is punishable with death.
“So far, two persons have been arrested and we are still investigating to get the rest involved.’’
He said that the youths would also face the wrath of the law for taking law into their hands by attempting to burn down the office and vehicle of the vigilance group.
“The youths should have reported the incident to the police instead of taking the law into their hands,” he said.

Editor’s note:A former minister of aviation Femi Fani-Kayode in this second party of his essay, “The cry of the Almajiri” said that there can no longer be any form of genuine love between different regions of Nigeria.
The former minister also said that some people especially leaders and politicians from the North are only paying lip service to the unity of Nigeria.
To the people of the south-west, south-south, south-east and the Middle belt I say the following.
We must be steadfast and strong. We must look to our God and draw our courage and inspiration from Him. We must take off the gloves and get down to some hard work.
We must forge closer ties and remain united.
We must stand shoulder to shoulder and resist these hegemonist and born-to-rule devils with every fiber of our being.
The Holy Bible says that the blessing of the Lord resides where there is unity.
It tells us that the power of God flows where and when there is unity between believers and when those that share common values and a common world view are in one accord.
That is why the north spends a good deal of its time trying to sow seeds of division between the ethnic nationalities of the south. They feed on and draw strength from our petty rivalries and internal divisions.

Yet the truth is as follows. We all know it but no-one wants to say it. And that truth is that the answer to Nigeria’s problems is not just in restructuring because too much innocent blood has been spilt and shed by our collective oppressors over the last years fifty seven years.
Restructuring is only the first step and it is nothing but a means to an end. Essentially it is just a temporary and ephemeral palliative. It is a good first step in what will be a long and hopefully peaceful journey to an expected and better end.
The Holy Bible says that the blessing of the Lord resides where there is unity.
The final and lasting solution to our numerous problems is either a complete break up of the nation into five or six pieces at the very worse or the implementation of what has come to be known as the “Gideon Orkar” solution where the two core northern zones of the north-west and the north-east are excised and expelled from the federation at the very best.
Either of the two options are fine by me. Too much innocent blood has been shed over the years by the internal colonialists for anything else to suffice.

There can no longer be any genuine love and true fellowship between us. And if we say that there is or that there can be then we are just fooling ourselves and pretending.
Why should we continue to be our brother’s keeper when that brother hates us so much?
The bottom line is that there is no longer any basis for unity between the north and the south.
Between the Hausa Fulani core north and the rest of the country there is no love lost!
The great Greek philosopher Plato once said, “no-one is more hated than he who speaks truth”.
He is absolutely right. Yet despite that I have spoken the truth on this matter anyway and I stand to be corrected. I have spoken that bitter truth because I refuse to be intimidated or to be bound by political correctness.
Love me or hate me and take it or leave it. And despite the hatred and the insults that will come as a consequence of speaking truth, posterity will prove me right and judge me kindly.
Meanwhile I laugh when I read the obscene words and hear the obnoxious and self-serving cry of the almajiri.

They have said that “the Yoruba are chronic backstabbers” and that is an insult that they will live to regret. When will these creatures learn that they need Nigeria far more than Nigeria needs them?
The time of glorifying themselves and feeding their vain and fanciful delusions of grandeur will soon be over.
Until then we shall continue to look unto the hills from whence our help and we shall continue to call on the Lord of Hosts and the Ancient of Days to deliver us from these hateful Arewa demons.
Permit me to end this contribution with the words of Pastor Bayo Oladeji who is the spokesman of the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). On 29th June he wrote:
“When we told you that Christians are being marginalized and being discriminated against in the North, they said we are lying.
We dare them to publish name of public schools in the North where Christian Religious Education is being taught; name of states where churches are being given the C of O of their land; name of states where Christians are given support for holy pilgrimages as it is being done for the Muslims they are keeping quiet!
Yet they are paying lips service to the unity of Nigeria. As long as a group of people or a section of the country are being treated as second class citizens, the unity of the country will remain a mirage!”

May those that dispute the fact that we have a major and festering problem in this country and that unity between the core Muslim north and the rest of the country is nothing but a vain illusion consider Oladeji’s insightful words.
The great French writer and philosopher Voltaire said, “to know who rules over you simply find out who you cannot criticize”.
Those slaves that find it difficult to challenge or criticize the northerners and their numerous excesses and acts of tyranny clearly know who their masters are. May God help them before it is too late.

A total of 680 members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) have died trying to repel Boko Haram terrorists attacks in Borno from 2012 to date, the groups legal officer, Mr Junril Gunda, has said.

“The group which is non profitable started in 2012 when our youths picked up sticks and said no more Boko Haram and they successfully push the terrorist group out of Maiduguri.
“We don’t have any other home than Borno, we are therefore working tirelessly to provide civic protections against any form of threat represented by Boko Haram.
“Sadly a lot of our youths have paid the supreme price, there is hardly any day you will hear of an attack without one of our civilian JTF killed and that does not mean we will stop defending our land of terrorism.
“As you can see I am a lawyer by profession, this is my Chamber and I am happy to also be one of the Civilian JTF. I was also trained for eight months on light arms use by the military.
“If I see a Boko Haram now, I can take him down with my gun.
“It was necessary to train our civilian JTF on the use of arms because they always move along with the military in the front line during operations.
“Our civilian JTF had taken part in almost all the operations going on in Sambisa forest.
“It was also necessary because they are always the first to sight Boko Haram suspects during checks in the state capital.
“Boko Haram members are not afraid of the military, they are afraid of the civilian JTF; they believe if a civilian JTF kill any of them, they will go to hell. Many of them have said this during their testimonies,” said Gunda.
According to him, no fewer than 23,000 youth vigilantes have been registered under the body to provide civic protection in every nooks and crannies of the state.
He said that the job of the Civilian JTF was purely to stop Boko Haram insurgents from causing havoc in the society.
Gunda said there were numerous challenges confronting the group because the members were not been paid for the job.
“Like I said earlier, it was a voluntary thing, so no one was paid any penny for the job and because of some difficulties and poor living conditions of the youths, some engage in begging to fend for themselves.
“It was as the result of this that Borno state government decided to empower 1,400 of them as vanguards with the acronym BOYES and were being paid N15, 000 monthly.
“Government and other nongovernmental organizations must also give support to the other 20,000 youths who were not empowered.
“They should also give priority attention to widows of our deceased youths because we are left to carter for their welfare.
“Government should sponsor their children and give them a better life in recognition of the selfless sacrifices made by their parents,” said Gunda.

“He also promised to give me the form for free if I indicated interest, and he did when I agreed to contest. But one Jane told me that before a winner would be declared, there were certain things to be done, including the (s*x) video.

“I consented after some persuasion from the organisers. I later went for the contest at the Marble Arch Hotels in Awka, and I was declared winner with a Kia Rio vehicle as star prize.
“When I went for my car after the contest, the organisers brought out a contract form for me to sign, but I told them I wanted to contact my lawyer to see it. I was not given the opportunity to do so.
“What they kept telling me was that if I insisted on not signing the contract or wanted to contact my lawyer, they would release the video.
“At that point, I became uncomfortable and signed the contract to avoid such embarrassment, and the car was released to me from where it was packed within the premises of ABS.
“From that moment, I became a slave to them. On October 11, 2016, they called me to come and make presentations inside the office of one the organisers. After that, the man excused some people in that room and showed me the video again.
“They told me to drop my car and removed my crown from me. I told them I would take the car as stipulated in the contract. They insisted I should pack it in the premises of (ABS).
“I told my uncle in Abuja about the situation. My uncle called them and asked them to release my car to me. Instead, they forwarded the video to him as part of the blackmail. That was what happened.”

“All those who call themselves pastors are not disciples of Jesus. Their authority is not from heaven, but from men.”
Frustrated by the magnitude of the miracles attending Jesus’ ministry, the chief priests and elders of the Jews challenged him in the temple. They demanded to know by what authority he was doing the things he was doing and who it was who gave him the authority.
In his reply, Jesus presents a dichotomy between what is of God and what is of men. He asks them: “The baptism of John- where was it from? From heaven or from men?” (Matthew 21:25).

The question is loaded. By implication, Jesus maintains what is of God cannot be of men and what is of men cannot be of God. This dichotomy between God and men finds its most eloquent expression in Jesus’ categorical assertion that: “What is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God.” (Luke 16:15).
OPINION: Today’s pastors are all fake; Jesus is the only true pastor
It is pertinent, therefore, to ask whether the ordination of pastors today is of God or of men.
Fake pastors
The answer is straight-forward: the ordination of pastors today is of men and not of God. It does not come from the commandments or teachings of Jesus. It comes from the writings of Paul.
Paul does not say Jesus specifically instructs him to create ministerial positions in the church. Instead, he bases his authority for doing this on a messianic Old Testament scripture. With reference to psalm 68, he writes: “This is why it says: ‘When he ascended on high, he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men.’” (Ephesians 4:8).
Understanding that this scripture foretells Christ’s resurrection, Paul then says: “(Jesus) himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.” (Ephesians 4:11-12).
However, on investigation it becomes apparent that Paul’s position misquotes and even distorts the original psalm. The psalmist says: “When you ascended on high, you led captives in your train; you received gifts from men, even from the rebellious- that you, O LORD God, might dwell there.” (Psalm 68:18).
Can you see the difference? The psalmist says men gave gifts to the Lord. Paul, in quoting the psalmist, changes this to say the Lord gave gifts to men.
Unauthorised ministerial posts
Apparently, Paul wanted to create posts in the churches he established so as to bring them more effectively under his control. So he twisted an Old Testament scripture to make it seem as if it was the Lord who authorised it.
As a result, there are people today who insist the Lord has called them to be pastors and teachers, not knowing that Jesus does not envisage any of these positions under the New Testament.
This is what Jesus says: “I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes.” (Matthew 23:34). Nothing here about pastors and teachers. On his resurrection, he said furthermore: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to everyone.” (Mark 16:15). This means all believers are called to be evangelists, it is not a special calling for a select few.
In creating unauthorised posts, which have since spawned many others such as popes, arch-bishops, and right-reverends, Paul enshrined the spirit of the Pharisee in the heart of Christianity, contrary to the teachings of Jesus.
Jesus discourages honorific titles and warns that those who exalt themselves will be humbled. He mocks the pomposity of the Pharisees, insisting that we should not follow their example: “Don’t let people do that to you, put you on a pedestal like that. You all have a single Teacher, and you are all classmates.” (Matthew 23:8).
This show Jesus permits no differentiation among his followers. We are all equal. The pope is no different from the lay Catholic. The arch-bishop is the classmate of the members of the laity. None of them is greater in status than the other. So how come some classmates are now calling themselves teachers?
Nevertheless, Paul tells Timothy: “I was appointed a preacher and an apostle- I am speaking the truth in Christ and not lying- a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.” (1 Timothy 2:7). This cannot be true because Jesus expressly forbids this: “Do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ.” (Matthew 23:10).
Moreover, Jesus tells us God, and not men, will be our teacher: “It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me.” (John 6:45).
No contradiction
Jesus says furthermore: “Don’t set people up as experts over your life, letting them tell you what to do. Save that authority for God; let him tell you what to do.” (Matthew 23:9). This means the pastor is not the head of a church.
He cannot lord it over members of his congregation. As a matter of fact, pastors are now anachronistic. Jesus says: “There shall be one flock and one pastor.” (John 10:16). This establishes Jesus as the one and only “Good Pastor.” (John 10:11).
God the Father is the source of all authority and from him it flows to Jesus, the Son. Does it then flow from Jesus to the pastor, the bishop, or the pope?
Certainly not! On his resurrection, Jesus declared to his disciples: “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.” (Matthew 28:18). The authority remains firmly with Jesus.
Jesus says: “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant.

“And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave- just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:25-28).
Strange doctrine
What are we to conclude from all this? All those who call themselves pastors are not disciples of Jesus. Their authority is not from heaven, but from men. They are fake pastors with Jesus being the only legitimate pastor.
David says: “The Lord is my pastor, I have all that I need.” (Psalm 23:1). If Jesus is our pastor, we don’t need fake pastors. Jesus does not outsource his church to pastors. He says: “I will build my church.” (Matthew 16:18).
Wittingly or unwittingly, pastors today disobey the voice of Jesus by heeding instead the voice of Paul. Eternal life is not in the words of Paul. Eternal life is in the words of Jesus. (John 6:68-69). Jesus, not Paul, is “the author and finisher of our faith.” (Hebrews 12:2). Therefore, Jesus’ words are the only acceptable basis of church doctrine.
The Holy Spirit does not speak on his own authority; he only says what he hears. (John 16:13-15). Not so with pastors. They insist on being answerable to themselves.
Jeremiah says: “A horrible and shocking thing has happened in the land: The prophets prophesy lies, the priests rule by their own authority, and my people love it this way. But what will you do in the end?” (Jeremiah 5:30-31).

Following his absence from Nigeria over his health challenges, ZENITHBLOG.com TV has asked Nigerians if they miss President Buhari:
– Some groups in Niger Delta has condemned Nnamdi Kanu’s derogatory remark on former president Goodluck Jonathan
– The group cautioned the IPOB leader on his choice of words especially when in public
– The groups also said Kanu must be careful while speaking outside to avoid any form of misconstrued opinions over his comments
Some Niger Delta groups have condemned the comments credited to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu on the past Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan.
The group Niger Delta Security Watch of Nigeria (NDSWN), Ijaw Peoples Development Initiative, (IPDI), and Foundation for Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Crusade (FHRAAC) said Kanu’s remarks that Goodluck Jonathan was incompetent can undermine the relationship between the East and the Niger Delta.
The groups led by Dickson Bekederemo, Austin Ozobo and Alaowei Cleric said while the agree with Kanu on some of his ideologies concerning the North and the unity of Nigeria, it is wrong for him to have spoken negatively about the former president.

The group further cautioned the IPOB leader to be mindful of this comments especially in public in order the avoid any form of misconstrued opinions.
The group cautioned the IPOB leader on his choice of words especially when in public
“Why we want to totally disagree with Nnamdi Kanu is that due to the inordinate ambitious northern elite, no matter one’s selfless sacrifice to assuage their yearning, as long as political power is not in their hands, they will still hate the south.
“President Jonathan was neither ignorant, nor naive, but was caged nor he spent his tenure placating a region that see power as their birth right. The Arewa Consultative Forum love and adopt any southerner as their son if the southerner is a willing tool against his own people.

“While we are in agreement with Kanu on the issue of the north hating the south, we however, take exception to his assertion that President Jonathan was incompetent,” the groups said.
“What does Nnamdi Kanu want from GEJ? That GEJ should have ruled with brute force like President Buhari? Or that he should have concentrated his developmental efforts only in the south as a result of their hate for the south?
“While we appreciate Kanu’s disposition towards northern political elite with born to rule attitude, we want to say here that hate for hate multiply hate. We are all witness to the 95 per cent and 5 per cent dichotomy introduced by President Buhari into our democratic lexicon, which has snowballed into irreconcilable misunderstanding between the north and south.
“At the moment, President Buhari hatred for south which he demonstrated through his lopsided appointment has taken Nigeria to the cliff and the only remedy for the country not to fall over the cliff is the immediate implementation of confab report of 2014.

“We expected Kanu to equally appreciate the contributions of Niger Delta towards his release and the Biafra agitation as counterparts. We never expected of him to make outbursts that will undermine the friendship of the east and Niger Delta region.
“Again ,despite there were some shortcomings in Jonathan government, it is wrong to say Jonathan was not friendly to the east, or ignorant and naive, there was no average politician in the east that did not benefit from Jonathan administration.
The Niger Delta group also prayed that the IPOB leader learn to chew his words when he is in public.
ZENITHBLOG.com earlier reported that the All progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) had warned the IPOB leader to stay humble and drop his ‘emperor’ perception about himself.

The political party said Kanu’s call for the boycott of both the November 2017 gubernatorial election in Anambra state and the 2019 general election should the federal government fail to do nothing about restoration of Biafra is irresponsible.

When people hear about devaluation – they usually do not understand how it works. The impact of devaluation of Naira in the Nigerian economy may have a negative and positive outcome. Let`s take a look at how it really affects Nigeria!
Effect of Devaluation
For the last two years, Naira has managed to lose double its value in relation to the dollar.. Two years ago you could buy one dollar at the black market for N186 – today, you can purchase the same dollar for N365. It`s certainly not surprising that people are worried about these numbers. Nevertheless, devaluation have two sides! Let`s take a look at the possible advantages and disadvantages of the devaluation of Naira and its implication.
Benefits of Devaluation
1. Increasing of exports
Foreign buyers are usually interested in buying cheap goods. Therefore, depreciation can create a potential growth for entrepreneurs on the international markets. It will stimulate the local manufacturers to produce more goods for the foreign market.
2. Potential Economic Growth
Devaluation of Naira meaning is not something you should be afraid of. The market is constantly changing. Therefore, it`s necessary to change with this market. If the Federal Government provides the conditions for easy access of foreign markets, then Nigerians may get better business and job opportunities. Therefore, most of their efforts will be focused on export trades.
3. Less Import Activity
Importation has become less affordable for Nigerians! Therefore, some Nigerians will try to substitute foreign goods with the local ones. This might increase possibilities for local producers. They will therefore have less competition with foreign market and cater more to the country.
4. Reduced trade deficit
The effect of devaluation of Naira on the Nigerian economy may be extremely positive. Nigeria will decrease its dependence on imported goods! Therefore, it may start producing and exporting its products to foreign markets. This will increase the quantity of jobs and business opportunities within the country!
5. Quality Goods
If import decreases, then you will need something to substitute imported goods. Therefore, with a sound investment climate, Nigeria may get its own products with more affordable price. It will create more jobs on the market and provide better business opportunities.
Disadvantages of Devaluation
1. Inflation
It’s the biggest problem of effect of devaluation of Naira on Nigerian Economy. In other words, people will become poorer. The price of goods will be increased as entrepreneurs will have to cover costs. Long lasting devaluation may transform into financial crisis.
2. Reduced Purchasing Power
When you purchase any item at a shopping mall, you do not just purchase it. You invest into somebody`s business venture. That`s how the economy works! With reduced purchasing power, you will have no ability to support someone`s business. Therefore, the owner of the business will try to adapt to the current situation. If the owner fails to adapt, he/she will be kicked out of business.
3. Devaluation may scare investors
Investors do not like the idea of investing in something that will inevitably lose its price. Therefore, too rapid inflation in the country may scare them off.
4. Problems with debts in foreign currency
People who have debts in foreign currency will suffer the most. They will feel the real devaluation of Naira and its implication on themselves and their business. Therefore, without the help from the Government, these people will be doomed.
5. Import decrease
If Nigeria is not able to substitute goods, then Nigerians will have problems. The price for import products increase. Therefore, people will buy fewer imported goods.
Current policy Upon Devaluation of Naira
READ ALSO: Inverter prices in Nigeria
President Muhammadu Buhari proclaims that he would not agree to the devaluation of Naira. The reason for that is oil! Nigeria is tremendously dependent on oil exports! About 80% of Nigerian export is oil. Nigeria does not provide anything else that can substitute oil.
Moreover, the current oil prices are pretty low. No expert predicts that oil prices will increase. Therefore, according to this situation, the Federal Government will try to fight against the depreciation.
What is the reaction of international experts?
A few months ago, Vanguard publicized an article about the impact of the devaluation of Naira. It was pointed out that Nigeria was going to make the same mistake that was made thirty years ago. In 1986, Nigeria also tried to fight against devaluation.
The political situation was almost the same as today. It was the very period of the cold war between USSR and USA. Therefore, the markets held oil prices at the pretty low level to limit USSR.
That Nigerian political decision towards the devaluation of Naira created many risks:
☑ It created a double foreign exchange market;
☑ It created the macroeconomic collapse;
☑ It created the deficit on the market;
☑ It created corruption schemes which included black markets;
In 1986, the official rate of Naira to Dollar was about N1.5. At the same time, the parallel exchange rate provided N5 for one dollar. Despite efforts of the Government, it was not possible to hold these prices.
Devaluation of Naira on Nigerian Economy
The international experts keep insisting that parallel exchange rate damages the Nigerian economy. If the Federal Government insists on refusing the depreciation, then Nigeria may lose investors. Moreover, it seems that history is about to repeat itself. Thirty years ago Nigeria had an almost identical situation. Also, the excuses for refusing the Naira`s devaluation were the same. Maybe it`s time to adapt to the devaluation instead of hiding from it?
