The Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has left the London club to join Nigeria’s Olympic team at their training camp in Atlanta Georgia, United States of America.
The Nigeria senior team captain took to his official Instagram page (@John_mikel_obi) to make the announcement.
Mikel posted a picture of a training session with Chelsea with the caption: “First part of Chelsea preseason done. Off to Atlanta to join the Nigeria team for the Olympics 2016.”
According to an official in the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) who chose to remain anonymous, John Mikel Obi and four other top players joined the Nigeria U-23 team at their Atlanta camp.
The other players are William Troost-Ekong, Kingsley Madu, Oghenekaro Etebo and Daniel Akpeyi.
Mikel and the other players are in line to feature in the team’s final warm-up match against Rio-bound Honduras on Tuesday, July 26.
