For protesting against 22 months arrears, Buhari’s 287guards allegedly threatened with deployment to ‘Boko Haram’ states

The is reported fear among the 287 anti-riot policemen attached to the Presidential Villa as they have been allegedly threatened with deployment to the north-eastern states ravaged by Boko Haram for demanding for their allowance.

The threat, according to The Punch, came from their superiors and the condition is that the officers attached to the Police Mobile Force 24, State House, must stop demanding for the 22 months arrears of the risk cautious allowance, which were paid to security personnel serving in the Presidential Villa.

While other security bodies including the military, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Federal Road Safety Corps have reportedly paid their personnel, it was learnt that the policemen had not been paid for some unknown reasons.

The report quoted sources as saying while other security operatives were each paid N540, 000 outstanding allowances last year, a total of 287 policemen serving in the Presidency were not paid.

Instead, the policemen reportedly got N75,000.

The sources reportedly identified a deputy commissioner of police in the presidency as including the names of his boys in the payment list, thus inflating the number of those paid by the NSA.

“The military officers, DSS personnel and even FRSC men were paid their N540,000 but we (policemen) were paid N75,000 for the same period, and now the superior officers are threatening to demobilise and redeploy us to the North-East to fight Boko Haram if we insist on being paid the balance of the arrears.

“The fact is that the names of some men, who are not MOPOL personnel, were included in the list and are receiving the RCA,” the report quoted an officer of the force as saying.

The report said the chief personal security officer to the president, Abdulkarim Dauda, who was deployed to the State House last December had been paid the sum, but refused to act even after he was told the plight of the policemen.

The policemen were said to have further complained to the officer in charge of the MOPOL in the State House, Abdulahi Ibrahim, and other high ranking officials in the presidency.

President Muhammadu Buhari had reportedly directed that the arrears be paid to all deserving security personnel in the Presidential Villa.

No fewer than 22 girls and women have been kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents in two separate raids in north-east Nigeria, residents and vigilantes said.

UK Guardian reports that 18 girls were kidnapped in the first attack on Thursday, March 30, as the Islamist sect raided the village of Pulka near the border with Cameroon.

A Pulka community leader who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals said: “Boko Haram fighters from Mamman Nur camp arrived in pickup vans around 6am and seized 14 young girls aged 17 and below while residents fled into the bush.

“They picked four other girls who were fleeing the raid they came across in the bush outside the village.”

The official disclosed that the insurgents who abducted the girls were loyal to the faction headed by Abu Musab Al-Barnawi, the son of Boko Haram founder Mohammed Yusuf.

ZENITHBLOG.com recalls that Barnawi was appointed last year by Isis to replace Abubakar Shekau, the leader of the dreaded sect who had pledged allegiance to the jihadist group in 2015. Barnawi was promoted after Shekau had been criticised for mass killings and suicide attacks against civilians.

Another resident confirmed the raid and said the girls were likely to end up as brides for the fighters. “They didn’t harm anyone during the raid and they made no attempt to shoot people running away from the village,” said the resident.

Adamu Ahmed, a member of an anti-Boko Haram militia said in the second incident outside the village of Dumba, close to Lake Chad, the insurgents killed a herdsman who had tried to escape after refusing to pay protection money.

“When the Boko Haram gunmen came for the money they realised he had left with everything and they decided to go after him on their motorcycles.

“They caught up with him near Dumba where they slaughtered him and shot dead 50 of his cattle,” Ahmed said.

A member of the Civilian JTF in Borno state, Umar Modu, disclosed that 12 people were killed in multiple Boko Haram attacks on Wumyeduga village, near Damboa town about 7.45pm on Thursday., Guardian reports.

According to Modu, 23 people were also injured in the multiple attacks, which involved the detonation of explosives by a suspected female suicide bomber at the village’s cemetery.

“While the surviving villagers were burying the killed ones, a female suicide bomber also blew up herself in the midst of mourners, killing five and wounding of several others,” Modu disclosed.

The injured were said to have been evacuated to the Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri for treatment.

Similarly, the terrorist group ambushed Dangote trucks, killing three persons, including two drivers, and injuring three others at Kubuwa village, along Biu-Damboa road on Thursday, March 30.

“The insurgents ambushed Dangote trucks conveying sugar, salt and floors about 10am and killed the drivers and a civilian JTF member, while three persons sustained various degree of injuries,” Hassan Biu, a member of vigilante said.

‘We must go ahead with duties on imported vehicles' – Customs boss Hameed Ali declares

– The controversial implementation of duties on imported vehicles was suspended by the Nigerian Customs Service recently

In the face of the ‘war’ between the Senate and Hameed Ali, the comptroller general of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has declared that his agency will commence the enforcement of the planned verification of payment of duties on imported vehicles at the appropriate time.

ZENITHBLOG.com reports that Ali and the Senate are currently in a battle over the new policy. He was summoned by the lawmakers but walked out of the chamber for not wearing the uniform of the NCS.

Though the policy, which allows NCS personnel to stop and impound any vehicle imported into the country over the last seven years without an import duty, was suspended by the customs, Ali has said its implementation would soon commence.

The Nation reports that Ali said this during an interview in Abuja arguing that the policy is not just about generating revenue for the government, but also for security reasons.

”We want to ensure that we capture virtually all vehicles and tie vehicles to ownership because of the criminal nature of things happening in this country.

“Somebody can pick your car and go and commit armed robbery or another offence because we do not have the data, we cannot trace the car to the owner. But if every car is tied to the owner, it would make crime detection easier.

“I can tell you today that there are cars on our streets that have not been registered and there are people with different number plates in their houses. They just attach the number plate on any car they decide to drive and zoom off. This is simply not right.

“For those of us who have lived in the United States of America, your plate number is your identity. Once they compute your plate number, everything about you will be reflected there. That is the position we want to be in this country.

“We are consulting and we want to get to that level. We just create the level that capturing the data will be easier for us. The issue of verification is necessary because of the security situation in the country.

“Also, there is the revenue aspect. You will not deny that we need all the legal money that we need in this country today. It is going to be tasking on us all, but the payment of dues in some country is necessary.

“We need to understand that some countries survive on tax. It is only in Nigeria that we shy away from paying our dues and people question why they should pay,” the report quoted Ali as saying.

He however said the policy would be implemented with human face.

“We are human beings. In fact, when the policy came up, I had to go back and look at my own cars to make sure that I am not driving a car that has the wrong papers, while I am expected to enforce the same law on violators.

“This is what we want people in Nigeria to begin to understand. Yes, we regret he hardship, but honestly, for us to be able to move forward in terms of our security, we must grow a level higher in this country. We cannot attain any level without hardship.

“It may tamper with our ways of doing things, but in the long run, we shall all be better for it. So for now, you know we have suspended the policy. We are asking for feedback, we will look at the policy and refine it and then we see how best we can apply it without causing hardship to Nigerians.

“So we have not put a date to it yet. We are still consulting. When we do, we will let Nigerians know,” he said.

Somewhere in Lagos! Bariga residents live in utmost despair over bad roads (photos)

Residents of Abule-Okuta road in the Bariga axis of Lagos state have cried to the state government for help following the dilapidated state of the road.

This comes even as the road has become non-motorable for motorist, at a time when the rain seems to be here again.

On a recent tour around Bariga, Lagos state, ZENITHBLOG.com found out that there are some areas in Lagos state suffering every day due to poor state of roads and the Abule-Okuta road falls under this category.

Some of the people who live in the area said they have waited and prayed for years on the state government to come to their rescue.

Their prayers seemed to have been answered last year when the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s government began road and drainage reconstruction after a visit to the area.

On his visit, Ambode described the state of the road as unacceptable and assuring residents that the road and drainage would get a face lift soon.

The governor soon after followed his words with actions as reconstruction exercise began early last year on the road after years of neglect.

When ZENITHBLOG.com spoke with one of the Okada riders who simply identified himself as Ifeanyi what he knew about the bad road, he simply said: “We were happy when they began works on this road but we can’t say that now. The road is affecting my Okada business and other businesses here. How long will it take for the road to be accessible again?”

A resident of the area simply named Bolaji, who spoke with our correspondent, noted that the construction, which has been going on for over a year, has made more roads in the streets deplorable.

He said: “The road is so bad and not accessible. There are pot holes in the middle of the road. We urged the Lagos state government to help us complete the road.”

Osinbajo restarted Nigeria's economy – France hails vice president

The prime minister of France, Bernard Cazeneuve, has hailed Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, for the role he played recently in re-launching the Nigerian economy.

A statement by Laolu Akande, the vice president’s spokesperson, quoted Cazeneuve as saying this during a bilateral meeting with Osinbajo in Paris.

According to the statement, the prime minister assured that French investors would take advantage of the opportunities in the Nigerian economy.

Akande said Osinbajo and Cazeneuve agreed that Nigeria and France would continue to deepen diplomatic, economic and military relations.

Osinbajo also told the French prime minister that Nigeria would be happy to work with his country as well as other diplomatic partners in dealing with the challenge of de-radicalization.

The vice president extended Muhammadu Buhari’s greetings to the French President Francois Hollande while thanking him for committing to the fight against insurgency in Nigeria.

ZENITHBLOG.com has obtained a video of an interview where Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West senatorial district explained the controversy behind his first degree certificate and the suspension of Senator Ali Ndume.

In the programme called Politics Today on Channels TV, Dino melaye said he graduated from the university of Ahmadu Belo and that the allegation leveled against him and senator Bukola Saraki were all lies and have been cleared by the Senate Committee on Ethics.

Melaye said allegations levelled against him and Senate President Bukola Saraki were all false.

Melaye however, refused to give a direct yes or no answer when he was asked if he indeed has seven degrees, including degrees from London School of Economics and Harvard University.

Melaye rather said: “There is something called investigative journalism, and I’m not going to be ridiculed on a television platform, whatever I have is mine and whatever I said I possessed. Anyone that has an argument against me, the onus is one you to proof it.”

He also said the 6 months suspension given to Senator Ali Ndume, the senate leader, was the Senate’s idea to discipline members going contrary to the upper house rules.

When he was asked to clarify the year he graduated and the year he served as there had been controversy over that as well, Melaye said: “That is another lie by Ndume again, Ndume said I served in 1999, my certificate is out, my certificate is bearing 2001, not 1999 but that’s another lie that Ndume told. if what I’ve presented is not true, they should rush to court and sue me.”

ZENITHBLOG.com recalled that Melaye’s certificate scandal started when he was accused by Sahara Reporters that he did not fulfill all requirements necessary to graduate from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) where he said he got his first degree from.

Melaye has since been cleared by the Vice Chancellor of ABU, but London School of Economics and Harvard University have allegedly denied the senator’s claim that he graduated from the two school, and so, Melaye’s certificate headache continues.

Meanwhile, Professor Aloysius Okolie has applauded the Senate for suspending Senator Ali Ndume.

Prof. Aloysius Okolie has lashed out at Senator Ali Ndume saying he deserves to be suspended by the Senate for trying to blackmail it.

He said: “As a distinguished senator, he should not talk like ordinary man on the street; he must have facts and figures before casting aspersion on anybody.”

Speaking in an interview with Vanguard, the former warlord described Buhari’s government as a zero government.

He said: “Is there anything to appraise in the Buhari led government? What is there to appraise? Can you multiply zero? If you multiply zero, what would it give you? From N200 a dollar during the time of former President Goodluck Jonathan, which was the highest, to a roving price of N450 per dollar to salary not being paid for months in all the states, this is a zero government and there is nothing to appraise. That President left and the people are not allowed to know the reason their president left? That fuel price was increased from N87 per litre when Goodluck left office to N145, what is there to appraise? You can’t multiply zero by zero because if you do, what you get is zero, so this is a zero government.”

Asari said the Niger Delta people rejected the federal government amnesty because it was a bribe.

According to him, they refused to take the amnesty because they did not want criminality to be attached to their names as they had not committed any crime.

“I did not take amnesty, so whatever concerns amnesty does not concern me,” he said.

On Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s visit to the Niger Delta region, the former militant said the jamboree should top.

He said: “This jamboree by the vice president is funny. Are they our overlords or are we being colonized that they are coming to visit here and there? Don’t they know what is right? The oil belongs to us; it does not belong to Nigeria. Ijaw oil belongs to us. If Itsekiri say their oil belongs to Nigeria, that is their business and if Urhobo say same of their oil, that is also their business and same applies to others. But we, Ijaw, are saying that Ijaw oil belongs to Ijaw, they should leave our oil alone. God put the oil there for us to develop ourselves, so there is no need for any Yoruba man called Osinbajo to be perambulating Ijaw land. What is he perambulating about for in the Niger Delta? Don’t they know what is right? Okay, in trying to be good neighbours to others and share with them, are they the ones that would decide for us the percentage that we would give to them? Their groundnut, did they share their groundnut or give it to us? Which road was built in Ijaw land with groundnut money or with revenue gotten from cocoa? So the thing is that this jamboree should stop, they know what is right and they should leave what is ours for us because they do not have the right to give it to us. That is the issue at stake and people are not addressing these issues as it should be addressed. So for me, they are only postponing the doomsday, they should do what is right because the oil of Ijaw people belong to them.”

Asari denied saying there would be war if former president Goodluck Jonathan lost the 2015 presidential election.

Borno people take BIG step to reverse Ndume’s suspension

Borno state governor Kashim Shettima and a couple of northern leaders have met with Nigerian Senate president Bukola Saraki over the reversal of the suspension of former majority leader Mohammed Ali Ndume.

Premium Times reports that Shettima led a team of northern traditional and political leaders to the residence of Saraki on Thursday, March 30 night.

A source said “The purpose of the visit” was for “mediation.”

The Senator representing Borno South was suspended on the recommendations of the report by the Senate committee on ethics, privileges and public petitions which is chaired by Samuel Anyanwu, PDP-Imo.
