Reptiles are often avoided for their crawling behavior; many people get irritated when they see reptiles even though they can kill them. We have to acknowledge that there are some brave people who can touch some of these animals despite the fact that they are scary.

The snake was killed after the man called for help.

A young man was made to leave his house in underwear when he discovered he had a visitor. The visitor turned out to be a long green snake.

The snake was seen close to his wardrobe when the man took off. He did not wait to pick up a cloth before dashing out. When people are faced with danger, the adrenaline in their body system either makes them fly, fight or stay rooted to a spot in fear. Flight won in the case of this young man who could not stay to strategize and find ways of getting rid of the intruder.

Snakes tend to leave their hiding place in search of a cooler environment when the weather is hot.

Instead, he ran outside to call for help. An Aboki who was fearless and known to be good in killing snakes was summoned and within minutes, he came out of the house with the snake dead.

This is more like a call to action for many people because of the season. The weather has changed and the heat will force many of the crawling animals to leave their hiding places in search of a cooler environment. On this note, it is advisable to keep your environment clean so that there would be no hiding place for the reptiles.

No matter how small a snake is, it will always be dreaded.

Also, keeping the doors shut will prevent them from entering the house. Any man can go berserk seeing these slithering animals in his room at an awkward time of the day. There are some plants that help ward off snakes. You can plant them around the house as a preventive measure to keep snakes away.

Soludo visited Kanu alongside renowned economist Pat Utomi, Law Mefor, national secretary of the Alliance Democracy, Udenta Udenta among others under aegis of Nzuko Umunna, a coalition of all major group in the South-east and South-south.

The former CBN governor said the visit was also to consult with Kanu on his agitation for Biafra and the way forward in liberating and ensuring development in the South-east and South-south region.

He said: “We visited to hear his own point of view and also Nigeria has never been divided like it is now!”

Soludo said the agitations in the region is due to corruption via looting by elites and the failure to address issues and challenges ravaging the country.

He also said that no citizen of Nigeria deserves the kind of the treatment meted to Kanu and his co-accused.

“Nnamdi Kanu is not above the law, neither should he be put beneath it,” Soludo said.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), was instituted to unify a divided people. By aiming at the youth it was meant to help Nigerians realize lives and cultures outside that to which they were born.

That was the main objective. The NYSC now does more than that, there have been times when many bent the rules to suit themselves. Youths who grew up in Lagos, barring any medical complications should ideally serve as far away from Lagos as possible for the one year duration.

Kudos to Nigerians who still browse in recession as internet users decline to 91.2m in January (interesting details)

The number of internet users in Nigeria’s telecommunications networks declined to 91, 274,446 in January, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said.

The NCC made the disclosure in its Monthly Internet Subscribers Data for January 2017 on its website on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to the data released, internet users dropped to 91,274,446 in January as against 91,880.032 users recorded in December 2016, showing a decline of 605,586.

The data also showed that the GSM service providers lost 605,586 internet customers after recording 91, 274,446 in January as against 91,880,032 users in December 2016.

The data revealed that MTN had 31,015.45 subscribers browsing the internet on its network in the month of January.

It explained that MTN recorded a drop of 737, 964 internet subscribers in January after recording 31,753.369 in December 2016.

Airtel had 19,618.485 internet users in January, adding 254, 94 customers to its December record of 19,363.545.

In Etisalat, the data showed 13,564.284 customers who browsed the internet in January revealing a decrease of 188.656 users against the 13,752.940 users recorded in December 2016.

The data showed that Globacom had 27,076,272 customers browsing the internet on its network in January.

This amounted to an increase of 66,094 users from the 27,010.178 users of the internet on the network in December 2016.

Xenophobic attacks: Nigerian youths storm South African embassy in Lagos, see what happened there (photos, video)

Nigerian youths under the aegis of Advocates for Collective Transformation (ACT) on Tuesday, February 28, marched to the South African Embassy in Lagos to stage a protest against the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other Africans.

Many Nigerians had been unhappy about the attacks people from other countries in South Africa and had complained bitterly about it to the federal government.

In fact, some Nigerians are of the opinion that South African companies in the country must be abandoned until they (South Africans) can guarantee the safety of those living in the Southern region of Africa.

The protesters who were quite few in number, got to the South African High Commission house on Molade Okoya Thomas Street, Victoria Island, much later than the journalists who were waiting to catch a glimpse of the agitators, but were still early enough to articulate their demands.

According to Ayodele Samuel, the media coordinator of the group, they decided to stage the protest to pass a message to the Nigerian government to put an end to the citizens’ suffering in the former Apartheid region.

“Even as we speak, we heard of an attack on some other Nigerians in South Africa which we totally condemn and stand against.

“We say it is barbaric and unacceptable, and we therefore as the Nigerian government to declare a persona non grata to South Africans unless they can assure us of the safety of our people in their country,” he said.

He added also, that if Nigerians have not been violent to South Africans, therefore, they shouldn’t have a reason to make life miserable for Nigerians.

Fehintoluwa Ajayi, the secretary general of the group also noted that the federal government has a huge role to play in ensuring the safety of the lives and properties of Nigerians living in South Africa.

According to him: “We were brought up by our parents to have so much love, but if we do this to others and they don’t do same to us, there will be trouble.

“We are representing 80 million Nigerian youths home and abroad and are saying that if all our leaders and professionals are killed in diaspora, who will lead us?

“South African emissaries should be disallowed from entering the country until they can guarantee the safety of our people in their country.”

Samson Uwala who also spoke on behalf of the Nigerian students, agreed that it was a barbaric act to kill innocent citizens of Nigeria in South Africa.

While wondering why the killings would not stop since we are all Africans, he said: “We want our government and government in South African to stop the barbaric killings.”

After the peaceful protest in Lagos, nobody from the embassy came out to meet the protesters, rather, it was gathered that the staff of the high commission were asked to shut their gates properly and stay indoors.

Average life expectancy: Nigerians will live longer by 2030 (SEE evidence)

Average life expectancy will increase in many countries by 2030, according to new research.

Led by Imperial scientists in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), the research shows that average life expectancy is expected to hit 90 in some developed countries by 2030.

Majid Ezzati, the lead researcher and a professor at Imperial College London’s school of public health said: “The fact that we will continue to live longer means we need to think about strengthening the health and social care systems to support an ageing population with multiple health needs.”

According to the study, published in The Lancet medical journal, South Koreans are likely to have the highest life expectancy in the world by 2030 while the United States is one of the lowest among developed countries.

Life expectancy is calculated by assessing the age at which people die across the whole population. A country where many young people die in injuries and violence will have a lower average national life expectancy, same thing as when there is a high childhood mortality rate.

As life expectancy increases globally, it is growing slowly in Nigeria and remains lower than many poorer countries in Africa.

Nigeria is ranked 216 in the world ranking of life expectancy and 16th in Africa with a life expectancy of 54.07 years. The average life expectancy in Nigeria 37 years ago was 44.74 years. In 2020, the average life expectancy in Nigeria is expected to rise to 55.23 years (ranking 214 globally and 14th in Africa), while in 2030, it will be 59.20 years (ranking 212) and by 2050, hit 68.15 (ranking 209 globally and 9th in Africa).

20bn dollar gas park: You need to see what Delta government is saying about the project

Following the pronouncement by Acting President Yemi Osibanjo of plans by the federal government to activate the Gas Revolution Industrial Park project at Ogidigben in Warri South west local government area with $20billion, Delta state house of assembly appealed to the federal government to act the talk by executing the project.

On Monday, February 27, 2017, Acting President Yemi Osibanjo said the federal government in collaboration with oil-producing communities in the Niger Delta region is working on a plan to put in place a gas industrial park that is valued at about $20billion through a Public-Private Partnership.

The project tagged the Gas Revolution Industrial Park (GRIP), Ogidigben, will cover 2700 hectares with fertilizer, methanol, petrochemicals, & aluminium plants located in the park that has already been designated as a Tax Free Zone by the federal government

Addressing journalists after plenary session, the member representing Warri south in the Delta state house of assembly, Daniel Mayuku, said: “Much has been said about the gas industrial project which when executed will have multiplier effects on the economy of the country and lives of the people”.

He said the completion of the project would help douse tension in the Niger Delta as all what the agitators wanted is development that would impact meaningfully in their lives.

The lawmaker added: “The only federal presence in the oil rich Warri Southwest including Escravos, Opruoza, Ogidigben, Gbaramatu among others is instrument of taking, that is instrument of exploration and exploitation,” maintaining that “these communities should be made a part of Nigeria in terms of development.”

Mayuku described the plans by the federal government in partnership with the private sector to activate the Ogidigben gas industrial project with twenty billion dollars as a welcome development that would transform the area in line with the yearnings for the development of the Niger Delta region.

He said: “The project which was long expected would not only create job opportunities for the people but would give them a sense of belonging,” noting that the people of Warri south west received the news with great joy as the federal government has realized the need to activate the project years after it was initiated.

Mayuku said the area had nothing tangible to show in terms of development despite its huge contributions to the nation’s wealth, stressing that the Ogidigben gas industrial project would create jobs, business transaction and improve the state’s economy.

The lawmaker urged the people of Ugborodo and Gbaramatu to partner with the federal government and the private sector consortium to ensure the project is given speedy execution.

BREAKING: After xenophobic attack, South Africa deports 97 Nigerians

The South African Government has deported 97 Nigerians for committing various offences in the country.

The deportees landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Monday night in a chartered aircraft with the registration number GBB710 from Johannesburg.

The deportees were made up of 95 males and two females.

DSP Joseph Alabi, the Spokesman of the Lagos Airport Police Command, confirmed the development.

An immigration source said on condition of anonymity that six of the deportees were returned to the country for drug offences while 10 were arrested and deported for other criminal offences .

The others were said to have committed immigration offences in the Southern African country.

All the deportees were profiled by officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) while those deported for drug related offences were handed over to the Police for further investigation.

Six of the suspected human traffickers were also apprehended and brought back to the country for prosecution.

Heart of gold! Aisha Buhari builds orphanage, school in Maiduguri (photo)

Wife of Nigeria’s president, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, on Tuesday, February 28, commenced the construction of Aisha Buhari Foundation Orphanage and School in Maiduguri, Borno state capital.

According to a report on Premium Times, the foundation of the project was laid by the Deputy Governor of Borno state, Usman Dirkwa.

This was disclosed in a statement by the office of the first lady.

The Aisha Buhari Foundation Orphanage and School is expected to provide basic necessities of life for orphans, in order to afford them a chance to grow up into normal adulthood.

Aisha Buhari, who was represented at the event by Senior Special Assistant to the President, Hajo Sani, has consistently called for more humanitarian action in the North East, matching her words with action with the commencement of the project.

She said: “This project is borne out of my passion of improving the living condition of victims of conflicts and other humanitarian crises, particularly, children.”

On his part, Usman Dirkwa, the deputy governor of Borno state appreciated the commitment of Aisha Buhari and prayed God to strengthen her.

He also promised that Borno state will continue to provide an enabling environment for humanitarian organizations to operate.

On their part, two young IDPs were full of praises for Aisha Buhari, who they see as a champion and a vanguard.

“She has done a lot for the IDPs. She has been at the forefront of assisting us and reminding others to do the same. Today, water and food are no longer challenges at the IDP camps,” said a young IDP.

Recall that despite her fond act of giving, Aisha Buhari recently disclosed that she been rejecting gifts from people even before Muhammadu Buhari became president.

Speaking at the launch of a new campaign against graft tagged, “Women Against Corruption” in Abuja, on Wednesday, December 7, Aisha said she does not intend to collect gifts as the wife of the president even in the future.
