APC rejects negative poll conducted on social media assessing President Buhari's performance

-APC dismisses false report assessing performance of the Muhammadu Buhari government

-The party released a statement today in Abuja, discrediting the misleading report

-The report was fabricated by a false twitter handle of the All Progressives Congress

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied that it conducted a mid-term poll to assess the performance of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.

The party dismissed the poll as misleading information that was put forward by a certain twitter handle – @APCNigeria.

Reports say that the national publicity secretary of the APC Bolaji Abdullahi, issued a statement to the press in Abuja on Wednesday, May 30 denying the false report.

The statement from the publicity secretary also criticized media houses which published the false report without seeking verification from the APC’s publicity department.

APC false Buhari poll

APC says it did not conduct the poll that rated President Buhari’s performance very low

The statement read: “The attention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to some false and misleading news reports that the Party conducted a poll to assess the performances of President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

“For the record, the APC has not conducted or authorised any assessment poll on the President Buhari administration. The media and indeed the general public are advised to ignore the questionable poll.

“The twitter handle, “@APCNigeria” with which the so called “assessment poll” was purportedly conducted is not the official twitter account of the APC.

“Unfortunately, media organisations that published the story did not verify from the Party’s Publicity department the authenticity of the unauthorised poll credited to the Party.

“Recall that the Party had on February 21, 2016 distanced itself from the twitter handle, “@APCNigeria” following a similar false report credited to the Party on the outcome of the Benue South Senatorial rerun election.”

5 facts to know about the 2 new bills Osinbajo just signed

With President Buhari away, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has signed into law two bills from the National Assembly.

This laws will ultimately facilitate access to more affordable credit for Nigerians. The bills which have now become ‘Acts’ are the Secured Transactions in Movable Assets Act, 2017 (otherwise known as Collateral Registry Act) and the Credit Reporting Act, 2017.

Below are some facts about the new laws:

1. The Collateral Registry Act

‘The Collateral Registry Act’ ensures that Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Nigeria can register their movable assets such as motor vehicles, equipment and accounts receivable in the National Collateral Registry, and use same as collateral for accessing loans.

With President Buhari absent, Osinbajo has continued to fill his space

With President Buhari absent, Osinbajo has continued to fill his space

This in turn will increase their chances at accessing financing and tackle one of the major obstacles faced by MSMEs.

2. The Credit Reporting Act

‘The Credit Reporting Act’ provides for credit information sharing between Credit Bureaus and lenders (such as banks), as well as other institutions that provide services on credit such as telecommunication companies and retailers.

Access to credit is critical to economic growth and is considered to be the motor for driving private sector development. However, in Nigeria more than 70% of private enterprises, typically MSMEs, have limited or no access to credit.

READ ALSO: Osinbajo invites Saraki, Dogara to Aso Rock for signing of 2017 budget

Credit applications get rejected due to insufficient credit history and information for the lender to use to make a reasonable judgement, as well as unacceptable collateral. The two new Acts remove those obstacles for MSMEs.

Traditionally, banks only give loans to businesses that can provide fixed land and property as collateral. This shuts out MSMEs which usually own only movable assets like motor vehicles and equipment.

The Collateral Registry Bill, 2017, will give confidence to lenders to utilise the Registry and thereby make credit available to MSMEs and individuals through the use of their movable assets as collateral.

3. Benefits

This Act enables lenders to make reasonable judgement on whether or not to extend credit to an individual, and reduces the cases of bad loans.

On February 21st, 2017, the leadership of the National Assembly publicly committed to passing the two bills as part of the 60-Day National Action Plan for Ease of Doing Business initiated by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC).

That promise was kept by the National Assembly last week with the Bills forwarded to the Acting President for assent.

4. With the passage of these Acts, the existing Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Guidelines regulating the operations of the National Collateral Registry and Credit Bureaux have now been replaced by formal legal frameworks.

5. The passage of these Acts would facilitate the achievement of the goals of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) set up by President Muhammadu Buhari in July 2016 and chaired by the Vice-President to progressively make Nigeria an easier place for businesses to start and thrive.

CLO claims EFCC operatives seeking to extort Hon Nwuche

– The South-south zone of the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) has said that Hon Chibudom Nwuche is man of integrity

– CLO says Hon Nwuche is being attacked by forces within the All Progressive Congress in Rivers state

– The group says some persons are hounding Nwuche because he won’t be party of their dirty deals

The civil liberties organization has alleged that it has uncovered a plot to arraign Hon Chibudom Nwuche for money laundering.

According to the CLO, some operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), are seeking to arraign Nwuche for awarding a civil contract to Foundation for Youth Development ( FYD).

ZENITHBLOG.com gathered that Nwuche is a trustee of the FYD by the Amnesty Programme.

The CLO claims that though FYD has provided copious documentation and videos showing how the N2.6BN paid as mobilization was disbursed in furtherance of the contract and a loan to the Amnesty Office the EFCC IPOs are bent on prosecuting Nwuche.

It is said that the IPOs in question, want Nwuche prosecuted for resisting their attempts to extort him and exposing the illegal sale of his certificates of occupancy which was stolen in a raid at his residence.

Despite being aware that Nwuche’s case is in court and that FYD is owed N5.4BN for the provision of a sea time training vessel by the amnesty office, the EFCC operatives have continued to seek means to arraign Nwuche.

It is alleged by the CLO that the IPOs had at the invitation of Hon Nwuche in July 2016 demanded for N100m to close the case.

“They maintained that in spite of his plea of innocence that he was a politician and they could end his career with prosecution whether or not he was eventually freed of the allegations”.

In a statement signed by its zonal, Karl Chinedu Uchegbu, the CLO says that “Some monies were paid as advance after which the matter was reported to their bosses and nothing was done”.

Sources reveal that the infuriated IPOs who organized a raid of Nwuche’s residence on 28th Nov 2016. Over 17 armed men reportedly stormed Nwuche’s residence purporting to look for a stash of dollars.

They searched and found no dollars but took away over 10 C of Os and diamond and gold Rolex watch.

The CLO alleges that some of these C of Os later found their way into the market for sale.

The police were alerted and arrested over 8 suspects who mentioned one John Obetan Obi as the source of the C of Os.

Obetan Obi is said to be one of those that joined the IPOs in searching Nwuche’s residence even though he is not a staff of either the police or EFCC. He has since been declared wanted by the police.

See attached adverts in Daily Trust and police report confidentially obtained. He is also suspected to be the one that planted illegal firearms to implicate Nwuche.

CLO claims EFCC operatives seeking to extort Hon Nwuche

Obeten was one of those who searched Nwuche’s house, though he is not a security operative

The issue of the purported illegal firearms was only raised in April, about 4 months after Nwuche had written a letter of complaint to the EFCC and began to pursue the recovery of the C of Os.

This was also after the senate had raised the issue of the missing documents.

The CLO in its statement, called for thorough investigation by the president as to how state security apparatus are now being used by security operatives for criminality and to intimidate and destroy innocent citizens that resist their extortion.

“We are calling on the National Assembly to investigate these gross abuse of power by the IPOs and their attempt to cover up the criminals that participated in the raid. We hope that the authorities will stop them from harassing Hon Nwuche on behalf of their known political sponsor,” stressed the CLO.

In a similar vein, Hon Nwuche has said that he is minding his business and legal practice and studying the political terrain and networking with like minds in the interest of the unity and prosperity of Nigeria.

Reacting to why the south-south is underdeveloped in spite of the huge resources she has received since 1999 from 13% derivation, Nwuche said perhaps some of those at the helm of affairs did not get their priorities right and may not have had clear and focused agenda for the development of the region.

He noted that they may also not have applied the revenues judiciously and may have frittered some of the monies away.

Nwuche said: “That’s not to say that some have not done reasonably well given the constraints of the difficult terrain and the challenges of our political system and the demand of maintaining peace and seeking re-election for such leaders and their myriads of supporters.

The biggest challenge however is that of vision. Leaders must be imbued with vision; open to new ideas, surrounded by thinkers and consultative by nature.

They must also be well prepared for the office and governance and must have spent some time on their manifesto before contesting elections.

If you come into an office with a clear vision and plans for your people, you will hit the ground running as there is a lot to do in every sector.

From human capital development, youth and women empowerment; development of critical infrastructure from roads, jetties, power, water, rural development and agricultural and aqua culture.

You will find that the billions from FAAC will not be sufficient talk less of siphoning any monies.

You must also love your people and have empathy for them and then you will not be able to be corrupt.

In contrast when a man without vision or plans is elected into office and is given billions, he becomes corrupt not because he is wicked or evil, but because the money is too much as he really had no plans on how to deploy it.”

Governor Okowa abandons 3 important projects of previous administration

– Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state has scrapped two projects initiated by the previous government of Dr. Emmanuel Udaughan

– He said there is no enough fund to continue financing the projects even as the private partners are not showing real commitment to the projects

– The governor also suspended the first class scholarship scheme also initiated by the previous government, basing his decision on scarcity of funds

Delta state Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has scrapped two projects initiated by the previous administration of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan. The two projects are the Oleri Park in Warri and the wild life park in Ogwashi-Uku.

Okowa hinted that the projects which have gulped billions of naira from the state coffers cannot continue following the failure of the private partners to show commitment to the two parks.

The governor gave the revelation Tuesday at the quarterly media interaction held at the Delta government house.

Also, the governor suspended the Delta state first class scholarship scheme for graduating students of Delta origin to study in any country and institution of their choice.

Governor Okowa scraps predecessor’s projects, says they are not workable

Governor Okowa said: “I wish it were something that I could continue, you see when we hear about the economic recession, we want to just pretend as if we don’t know how deep the cut is. It is not easy, I know of a particular state in this nation where workers are on 50 per cent salary.

READ ALSO: BREAKING: Confusion as South East Assembly asks Abuja Court to revoke Nnamdi Kanu’s bail

“It is even happening now that even at the federal level, the federal universities are not receiving full paid salaries. So, when you have this very deep cut in the economy and we want to, on our own, pretend as a state government as if we can still chew everything that is available to us, it is a great mistake.”

He said there are things his government is looking at to be done and those to be stepped down at the moment in order to stabilize governance.

“The question is will the worker be relieved of his duty so that I can continue with some of these scholarships programmes? It’s something that we found was not going to work,” Governor Okowa said.

Answering a question on his role in the impeachment of the former speaker of the state house of assembly, the governor said: “I believe the house of assembly is vibrant enough and they have knowledgeable men but the real truth it is that I have no hands in the impeachment and that is why I spent a lot of time trying to resolve the issues.

“But it appears the large majority of the membership of the house felt that the former speaker needed to give way. And I did not believe that after trying to reconcile everybody. In fact for four days I didn’t have to do any other thing, I am just trying to hold meetings with various sections.”

PAY ATTENTION: install our latest app for Android, read best news on Nigeria’s #1 news app

Okowa also said he had not right to mount pressure on members of the house to do anything against their will, adding: “That is why the decision was taken by them. If I were to have a hand in the impeachment of the speaker, they won’t need to sit in the very early hours of the morning.

“They would have sat at the appropriate time because I would have provided them enough security to do that but I don’t think I will get myself involved in the impeachment of any speaker, I don’t think that is the right thing to do.

He continued: “Everybody is equal, whenever you are appointed or elected into any particular office, you are only just the first among equals and anything can take place with the house of assemblies just as it happens at the national assembly.”

Saraki reveals real REASON he didn’t contest against Buhari in 2015

– Senate President Bukola Saraki has revealed real reason he didn’t contest against Buhari 2015

– He said supported Buhari’s candidature because he did not want to be part of the All Progressive Congress (APC)’s problem

– He said he was one of the people who worked tirelessly to ensure General Buhari won the APC ticket

Senate President Bukola Saraki has revealed that he supported President Muhammadu Buhari’s candidature in 2015 because he did not want to be part of the All Progressive Congress (APC)’s problem.

ZENITHBLOG.com gathered that Saraki defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in January 2014 and there were speculations that he would contest in the APC presidential primary election.

In response to a publication by African Confidential in which he was said to be one of “those who stood against Muhammadu Buhari for the All Progressives Congress nomination in 2014”, and also that he had “retained London Communications consultants Aequitas, which helped Labour Party to remake its image under Tony Blair in the mid-1990s”, Saraki’s spokesman, Yusuph Olaniyonu, said his principal had publicly announced that he would not run against Buhari in October 2014.

Saraki reveals real REASON he didn’t contest against Buhari in 2015

“First, please note that your claims above are not correct. Dr Saraki did not contest the last presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress. Dr Saraki publicly announced in a statement in Ilorin on October 12, 2014, that he would not contest against Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) who was then an aspirant because ‘some of us need to make sacrifice and be part of the solution rather than part of the problem of the party’.

“He then declared that he would support the candidacy of the retired General. Dr Saraki was one of the people who worked tirelessly to ensure General Buhari won the APC ticket, and the general election,” he said in a letter.

“Again, contrary to the claim in your article, Dr Saraki does not retain the services of Aequitas. He formerly engaged Aequitas for strategic policy services while he was governor of Kwara state, and chair of the Nigeria governors forum, and at the initial stage of his period as senate president. He no longer retains the services of Aequitas effective from January 1, 2017”, he stated.

Biafra agitation: Yorubas are not cowards as Igbos think – Reno Omokri

– Reno Omkri says Yorubas are a dauntless people

– Omokri says for the long, many Igbos have looked at the Yorubas as cowards

– The cleric says history has shown that some of the bravest Nigerians are Yoruba people

– Omokri further notes that many Igbos in history have been seen to have acted in a cowardly manner

Reno Omokri has said that the believe that Yoruba people are cowards, is a false stereotype.

Omokri said the false stereotype is one which the Igbo people must shun.

Taking a walk down Nigeria history lane, Omokri noted that only two men have returned to Nigeria to face almost certain death even when they had the option of a very comfortable political asylum abroad.

The former aide to Goodluck Jonathan stressed that both men who returned were Yoruba.

In his Facebook post, Omokri narrated that “In 1985, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida toppled the Buhari regime while Major General Tunde Idiagbon (mixed Yoruba/Fulani) was at Mecca yet Idiagbon returned.”

He further noted that in 1995, “Olusegun Obasanjo (pure Owu Yoruba) was accused of planning a coup by the blood thirsty tyrant, Abacha (if you don’t like the truthful description of Abacha you can go and join him where he is) while he was away in Copenhagen. He returned to face almost certain death.”

Biafra agitation: Yorubas are not cowards as Igbos think

Omokri says the Igbos must stop believing in the false position that Yorubas are cowards

Omokri who said he admired Ojukwu, however, noted that Ojukwu disappointed many people when he (oJUKEU) fled. “I wish he remained,” said Omokri.

The charismatic cleric also informed that he also admired Azikiwe, “but Awolowo would NEVER abandon his people as Azikiwe did when he defected to the federal side during the civil war.”

Throwing more lights on the courage of the Yoruba people, Omokri stressed that Awolowo was in prison because of his people and he could have been released had he compromised his beliefs but he stoutly refused.

“That is courage not cowardice. I have been in direct communication with Gowon whom I admire but he did not return after he was accused of being behind the Dimka coup.

Obasanjo and Idiagbon are probably the bravest Nigerians ever. They are certainly braver than Murtala Mohammed who was safely in London waiting for Joseph Garba and co to topple Gowon,” Omokri opined.

According to Omokri, the stereotype of Yorubas as cowards is false. “Every ethnicity has cowards and brave men.

As we celebrate #BiafraAt50, I hope the Yoruba and Igbo can find common ground and unite as Southern Nigeria’s two main ethnic nationalities otherwise the South will continue to be politically disadvantaged even when it is the most educationally advantaged part of Nigeria,” Omokri stressed.

In a similar vein, Omokri has said that it is true that the Igbo are marginalized in Nigeria, however, a lot of the blame for this can be laid at Ndi’Igbo’s doorstep.

According to an earlier report by ZENITHBLOG.com, Omokri noted that the major undoing of Ndi’Igbo is their misunderstanding of the term strength.

He stressed that as a general rule, to the Igbo, all strength is physical. “They do not seem to realize that strength is your ability to assert your will on earth and that that ability may not always be physical,” Omokri noted.

Omokri said the proverb-discretion is the better part of valor-is not understood by the Igbos.

He said Igbos tend to be reactionary and consider pausing to study a situation before you respond (not react) as cowardice.

“One or two of them may get it, but as a race in general they do not. They do not consider diplomacy as a first step,” Omokri said.
